I will be traveling on the Spirit in January with my mom who is one the heavy side. Sometimes she has problems with chairs that have arms. Does anyone know if they have chairs without arms or if we should avoid any areas of the ship?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

I am on the heavy side too & was very comfortable on the Spirit. All diningrooms are armless chairs. Lounges had very comfortable & roomy chairs too. My only concern for your mom (depending on how heavy she is), is the shower & toilet area. She can leave the toilet door open, but has to close the shower doors. I had no problem, but have some friends who would not fit. Don't know if the suites have bigger bathrooms, I assume they do. Have a wonderful cruise.

I believe all chairs are armless on most cruise ships due to allot of people being over weight....in fact you will find most or at least half of the people on the ship have a weight issue so rest assured you will be fine and good luck on your cruise

PatnJohn I am "on th heavy side" and while I can walk, I must sit and rest often. We where on the NCL-Sun 7-08-06 and I have had no problems "fitting" into baths, chairs, etc. The walk & sit was some times difficult. The Sun has no deck where there is a way to go from stern to mid- ship or mid-ship to forward with places to sit and rest along the way. I ended up using deck 7 (casino & shopping arcade) and using the casino as a rest stop. Also the piers at the ports are also not very "walk and sit" friendly. Most have no place to sit until you are totally off the pier, witch depending where your ship docks, can be a long walk. At Juneau, we docked at "dead low tide" and the ramp from the Pier to the parking lot was very steep. Way to steep for me to negoiate or to be pushed a wheel chair with a large person in it. There is a small folding portable stool, that I plan to buy for my next cruise. Hope this helped and have a great cruise. SeaFAB

The specialty restaurants have chairs both with and without arms, when making reservations have them note that you'll need chairs with no arms and they should have that ready for you upon arrival.
