Sailing out of New Orleans

We will be on the Golden Princess in December, sailing out of New Orleans. We have never sailed out of there before. Can anyone advise where the ship docks? Is it near the convention center/Marriott/Hilton hotels ??

The cruise ships sail from the Julia Street terminal http://www.portno.com/cruise_julia.htm

Bourbon Street and the central business district is all within walking distance.

Enjoy; we sail from there on 2 December on P&O's Oceana.

the terminal is actually right behind the convention center. Very convenient to everything. We are sailing on the golden on Dec 30.

 

We are hopng for no hurricanes not so much for the port but I really don't feel like renovating my house again.

We sailed out of New Orleans in '03 on RCCL. It was so foggy that the ship was not permitted to leave the port per the Coast Guard. My in laws left the ship to walk around the area that they came right back the fog was so dense. The next morning we were permitted to leave. The trip on the Mississippi River was awesome. We had to miss Belize on that cruise and yes there were plenty of complaints. Now if you were the Captain would you pick Grand Cayman or Belize to miss?? We thought the Captain made a great choice in choosing Grand Cayman to visit.

I've heard the trip up and down the Mississippi is the highlight of the cruise for some folks.
