Dardreamer Posted August 3, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2006 Just back from cruise - can't get back in the groove of being home!! I will give you the highlights - arrived at dock at 11:30 - ship was late getting in so we had to wait about an hour - once they started it was about 10 minutes and we were on board. The food was very good in dining room - did not care for too much at buffet - ate many times in dining room for breakfast and alway in the evening - there were 6 of us - my two children 19 and 21 and their friends and my husband and I. They really really really hassle teens about their age. It was 18 to get into club and they carded my son and daughter every night - it got to be very frustrating as they are both of age. Drinking was 21 and they watched the teens in club like hawks - of course there were a group of 17 year old girls who drank and got into club every night but "daddy" "spoke" to bouncer privately if you know what I mean and that was so wrong!!! Money talks!! Basically it was a great cruise - the shows were great - especially Take II - don't miss that one - and the adult comedian Happy was hysterical. All the shows were really great and we have been on Royal Carib. 8 times and I think Carnival shows were better. The only thing I was not happy with was you could not buy liquor on board and bring up to room for a fee as you could on R.C. They really get you on the drinks. Lost in the casino - there were some slot and table winners - the guy next to me won $8,000 on 3 card poker with a straight flush!! Any questions - feel free to email me. It was great going out of NY and so easy as we usually fly to Florida or P.R. for cruises - we are from CT. Disembarkment was not organized at all. We did not get off until after 11:00 am - they let people off first who are carrying their luggage off - but people held it up by trying to get off who were not carrying luggage - they announced this many many times and people still could not follow direction. We had a great room attendant who let us stay in one of our 3 rooms until our color was called - he did our room last - he was really great all week. All in all it was a great time but very expensive with liquor and casino - but who cares - you only live once - enjoy it!!
vincenzo0506 Posted August 3, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2006 Thanks Dardreamer for the great review. Doesn't sound like anything new on the disemarkment. It is usually madness. We usually sit out on deck until they call us. I saw you coming in , on Monday was it? It was about 8:30 and the ship was just coming up on the sourthern tip on Manhatten. We still have 29 days(not counting what is left of today) before we sail. What did you do on the shore days? Did you take the ship excursions or did you venture out on your own? vincenzo:)

MrPete Posted August 3, 2006 #4 Share Posted August 3, 2006 Did they fix the fiasco they call lunch on the day you visited Tortola? Of all days to keep the dining room closed, they do it that day. Everyone was in the buffet at once. It was AWFUL!
Rare silentbob007 Posted August 3, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 3, 2006 Dardreamer, thanks for the report. FYI, RC has matched Carnival's drinking policy and you can no longer buy liquor from the shops for in-room consuption.
nybumpkin Posted August 3, 2006 #6 Share Posted August 3, 2006 Did they fix the fiasco they call lunch on the day you visited Tortola? Of all days to keep the dining room closed, they do it that day. Everyone was in the buffet at once. It was AWFUL! Pete, as of our Tortola day, the dining room was closed for lunch and the buffet was MOBBED. What compounded it was that everyone comes back to the ship between 1 and 1:30 and figures they'll wait until they get back on the ship to eat. We ended up getting burgers at the grill (no line) and sitting on stools at one of the closed Lido deck bars. (However, a bartender very quickly came over and made some very nice pina coladas for us.) And there were people coveting those seats as well - every time one of us got up to get something else to eat, we had to keep turning people away. (He just went back for more fries....) That was the worst we ever saw the buffet - other than that day, the lines weren't long and we always could find seats. OT - Not sure if you and your family are Catskill Game Farm fans, but they just announced that they're closing for good on Oct. 9. Rising costs and smaller crowds. We've gone most years since our oldest was about 3; guess we'll try to get back one more time before they're gone.:(
