Upgrade from Mauritania QE2

We are booked on the QE2 October. We have seen that if it is your wedding Anniversary they will upgrade us. We are in Mauritania cabin inside. We presume they upgrade to outside cabin. But if all the cabins are taken do they upgrade to Corona?

Also our cabin is midship near the lift. Presumably all outside cabins near the lifts will have gone and only the less desirable outside cabins would be left. Can we decline a upgrade if cabin dose not suit?

Also what is the standard of Ballroom music and dancing on the QE2?

I suggest you speak to your travel agent (or Cunard direct if you made the arrangements yourself). Your agent will have full details of cabin availability and will also be able to tell you about size of cabin, merit (or otherwise) of location etc. Upgrade to Caronia is unlikely IMO, but someone may know differently. I think the anniversary etc upgrade is better cabin within same category ie you can go up within Mauretania but probably not to Caronia.

 

Sorry can't help on the`ballroom issue. Not big into that kind of dancing and music so not competent to give an informed view. Good luck and hope you enjoyyour voyage.:)

The upgrade is one category only. So if you have booked an M6, they'll give you an M5.

 

The upgrade fairy may visit you anyway, but don't count on it.

 

The only way to use the anniversary upgrade to get to the Caronia is to upgrade your booking to a M1 - then you'll be up to the bottom Caronia cabin. (C6).

 

These upgrades really work best at the other end of the price scale.....

Ballroom dancing is of great importance on the QE2. Every night the Queens room functions as ballroom, most often accompanied by an orchestra of about five or six musicians and a singer. Sometimes inaccurate tempi have been criticised. The ballroom dancing tought follows American standards, not Europeans.

When did you book? In the 2006 brochure they offer upgrades as part of the package if your anniversary falls within three months of the cruise. By the time the October 2006 to April 2008 brochure was issued they'd dropped the offer of an upgrade and reduced the eligibility period to two months.

 

We're booked for our honeymoon this December so I called Cunard to see if the upgrade would still apply. The answer was yes, but only because we'd already booked it.

 

Kindlychap's right - it was only a one category upgrade, but they would upgrade from one restaurant to the next if you were booked into the top category for that restaurant.

You must let Cunard know (normally through your TA) at least two weeks before you travel. In their 2006 brochure they advise letting them know at the time of booking.
