Diamond guarantee now has an assignment...a few questions

We just received our cabin assignment on the Diamond for this December. We booked a guarantee Balcony BE and we’re assigned/upgraded to BA on the Lido deck, Lido 304 to be exact. Wonder why it was so early? Seems that the consensus here is that it happens after final payment, and that’s not for almost 2 months. A few questions please.

1) Opinions on this deck and cabin? From what I gather this is totally covered.

2) It says Twin configuration. Do I call my TA or Princess to get that into a Queen?

3) Now that it is a BA could it still be changed back to lower category?

4) I know the balconies on the Caribe deck are larger and most are category BA. Should I have my TA try to get us switched to one of those?

Thanks!

Hopefully I can answer some of your questions. #1. yes it is totally covered. #2 It always says twin confiuguation. Just wait until you get on board. If it is twin have the rooom steward change to queen.

#3. If you were upgraded toa BA you will not go back down. You might be even getting another upgrade and then maybe not. 4. If you want the BA in the Caribe deck then ask your TA to get a room on that deck for you. If you have one in mind tell the TA but if you still want an upgrade after you picked out a cabin on the Caribe deck you may be upgraded on another deck unless you tell your TA NO UPGRADES.

On both of my Princess cruises (one past, one upcoming) I booked GTY about 6 months before sailing and had an upgrade and assigned cabin within a week. Just shows that there is no discernible pattern as to who/when/how when it comes to upgrades.:)

I was just on the Diamond on an Alaska southbound. We were on Lido deck all the way forward and it was one of the best cabins we ever had. There are no cabins above you - just the spa/massage area. It is covered and there is little traffic and close to Horizon food court and both indoor and outdoor pools. You will love the ship. Congratulations on your upgrade.

Also, Lido deck is on the 14th floor and since you are in the front of the ship, you will be using the forward elevators a lot. 7 floors down via the forward elevators/stairs is the Princess theatre and 9 floors down is the casino. The only inconvenience I can think of is if you have TRADITIONAL SEATING in the International Dining Room. That dining room is only accessible via the AFT elevators OR you can take the forward or mid-ship elevators to the Promenade Deck (7th Floor) then walk to the back (AFT) of the ship then go down 1 floor to the 6th floor to reach the International Dining Room. If you remember this, it'll save you so much time by looking for the International Dining Room while on board the ship.

For the 4 PC dining rooms, just walk to the mid-ship elevators on the Lido Deck (you'll have to walk by the outdoor pools) and take the central elevators down to the 6th or the 5th floor OR you can take the forward elevators down to the 7th floor, then walk to the midship atrium and either walk down the spiral staircase or take the elevator down to the 4 PC dining rooms on the 6th and 5th floor midship.

Thanks for the replies! One more question. Since final payment is not due for 2 months, what if I see the price of the BE that I booked go down? Can I still get a discount or do I now have to see if BA goes under the mark?

Funny you ask, because I just had that happening. I booked category AE directly with Princess and had been upgraded to category AB. Yesterday, 5 weeks before final payment, the fare for AE dropped by $104 pp, which also got it into a lower insurance category for another saving of $30 pp. Princess applied the lower fare and insurance to my booking, but it went back to AE GTY in the process, so I have to wait what happens again. It doesn't bother me, because I'd be perfectly happy with AE, but you might think otherwise.

From the never hurts to ask category, I wonder if this would fly. The original BE category is still the same price today. The BA I was upgraded to was then and is now $200 more a person. In other words the prices at the Princess web site have not changed at all. I noticed that a category AE mini-suite is the same price as the BA I was just put into. See where I am going on this? :p I guess I need to ask and see if I can be upgraded to that!
