Has anyone done local tours in any of the Norway/Arctic Circle ports?

Recommended Posts

I couldn't do "search" today, so I thought I would post a new questions on northern Europe.

We are heading off on the Royal Princess in July.

These are the cities we will be visiting:

Southampton
Hellesylt
Geiranger
Trondheim
Honningsvaq
Tromso
Flaam
Vik
Bergen

Are there any local tours you would recommend or all are these cities do-able without a tour guide? I thought we would get off the port and just walk around or take local transportation into town.

Any of your experiences in those cities would be most appreciated.

Thanks.

Jennifer

Bergen is very easy to do on your own. Usually I read several travel guidesbooks (Fodors, Frommers and Rick Steves), and one of them had a self guided walking tour. T

In Flam, I arranged to take the train up and back, then went to the RR Museum.

In Geiranger, we took a shore excursiojnn (rare for us) so we could go to the top of the mountain and also tour the Fjord Museum. I don't know how we would have done that on our own.
