As far as tipping, it appears we over-tip, perhaps about 10x what others do, but there are 7 of us in the suite and we can be a handful. At the end my husband gives a generous bonus as well. We think the cruise is all about service and accommodations and let me tell you the Villa is the best of both.

Enjoy.

From what I have read here on C.C. The Butler service is wonderful and could really be great for many cruises... As for tipping... I hope you did not mean to say 10x as in Ten times as much as the minimum recommend... That would be 10 X $10.00 per day, per person ( 7 persons) X 7 Days... $700 per day would be $4900.00 plus a generous bonus...? That would be a lot and makes me want to get back into the work force as a butler on a cruise ship... Maybe you meant 10 + dollars per day per person x the length of the cruise.... not 10x .... either way... it is your money and sounds like you have a great time on your cruises...:)

Checkmate: Of course you didn't ask for me cell #! I am wearing that "duh" look on my face at this moment - in an attempt to clarify.

I reread my post and even I didn't understand what I was trying to say:eek:!

One of those senior, blonde moments............

The point I was making (or obviously NOT making - LOL) was that as far as upsells are concerned, I give NCL my cell # and tell them to call me anytime/anywhere. This was in response to a question about - getting home at the end of the and finding the "upsell" fairy has left a message on your voicemail.

Maybe I should post late at night - (9:30 PM) - my mind obviously stops working after 6:D

  • 3 weeks later...
I got an upsell today froma mini suite to the owner suite, all the replies i have read on this are mostly about the dawn, does anyone have any info about the star and what to expect there?

Good for you! You will love it, I'm sure. :D

My understanding is that the Star and Dawn are quite similar, I would expect the owners suite to be similar, but I am sure there are some on these boards who have actually been in or seen both! :)

I am sure you could search up some pictures of the owners suites on both ships and compare.

On the 2/23/06 Dawn sailing, we were blessed with an upsell to an AB. From the moment we arrived at the pier we were spoiled rotten by our butler, Putu.

He met us in the Terminal building, and personally escorted us through every step of the check-in process, all the while handling every piece of carry-on luggage. He then escorted us through a private entrance onto the ship, and directly to our stateroom, and provided a tour with directions on the various functions of the tv's, telephones, etc.

Later in the day he performed a personal inspection of the suite, made requests of the room stewards and the ship's maintenance department, and then followed up to be certain that all issues were resolved to his satisfaction.

He served hot breakfast most mornings (only when we requested), complete with linen tablecloth and napkins, and a beautifully arranged table. On our last day aboard, he actually chastised me for not ordering breakfast in the suite!

Several times each day he visited the suite to be certain that everything was up-to-standard, always leaving snacks or desserts, refilling our fruit bowl, and ensuring a good supply of cream for my coffee.

If he didn't happen to see us during his visits, he'd call on our cordless phone to inquire if we had any special requests or needed anything at all.

He recognized certain habits and patters quickly, and adjusted things accordingly. For instance, when I ordered sliced bananas for the third day in a row on our breakfast order, he realized we are particularly fond of bananas. After breakfast, when he came to clear the dishes, he brought a second fruit-bowl filled with nothing but bananas! It remained for the duration of our cruise, and was refreshed daily along with the regular fruit bowl.

He very discretely kept tabs on our 16 year old son, often saying something like "I just saw young Mister! He's enjoying a game of basketball with friends" or something of the like. It was reassuring to know that even while we allowed our son to exercise some freedom, another pair of eyes was watching out for him.

Hands down it was the best vacation of our life, due in no small part to the wonderful services of Putu.

How nice to see a post by you again.....!!!!:D

I enjoyed ALL THOSE CRAZY NIGHTS (AND DAYS...!!!!) OF POSTING we had earlier this year and last on our two Roll Calls.....!!!!:D

Putu was our Butler too (Dawn, February 12th cruise). He was WONDERFULL.....!!!!icon14.gif

He REALLY, REALLY, REALLY took VERY GOOD CARE OF US.....!!!!!icon14.gif

And with the girls practically LIVING in the cabin, he catered to them (DVD's, Lunch, Snacks), actually, I think he SPOILED THEM...!!!!:D
