I broke down yesterday and booked another cruise! (third since may:eek: ) New Year's eve out of Charleston!!! (Cayman, Cozumel and Key West) I'll be eating ramen for the next few months but I see it as a fair tradeoff!

So tell me about the Majesty-- I've done some searches, but most comments are pretty old.

If you've done this itinerary or sailed on the Majesty, tell me what you think!

We've done the Spirit (loved!) and the Dawn (didn't love so much) and are looking forward to a smaller ship!

We have three women in a cabin and will be driving from PA to SC. (I've seen alot of deals where you stay overnight and they give you free parking for the week.)

thanks in advance!

I'm jealous. Did the Boston to Bermuda in July. Hope to do it again in April. Would love to drive to SC to do it during the Caribbean season. It's a little far from MA and I'm not sure my car would make it.

The crew is the best. The food was very good. We really, really enjoyed it. Room size for three could be an issue. A "standard" room is 108 sq ft., a "Superior" is 145 sq ft. I've read that the superior on the promenade deck are among the biggest.

I think you'll find the ramen noodles well worth the pay back:D

Thanks cruizin-- hopefully I'll lose some weight so I can eat well on the cruise :) More chocolate fondue for me!

We did book a superior (and were a bit bummed that we couldn't get the free upgrade with 3--due to the move up to guarantee)

We are the type that don't spend alot of time in the room. (and are really small packers to boot)

A bit of info here- we booked through NCL and asked that we be considered for upgrades if any come availible. She told me that we could put an extra $50 per person deposit down to get on the "upgrade waiting list" has anyone heard of this before???

jentroubles: I've got a a review of our last cruise on the Majesty posted here on CC -- suffice it to say, she's a GREAT ship with a wonderful crew! I'm sure you'll have a great time!

In fact, we're looking to book again in September!! Looks like we may be in steerage this time though...;)

I am going on my sixth Majesty cruise on October 1. I LOVE the Majesty! I can't say anything but wonderful things about it. The crew is the best. The ship is not fancy, but it has so much charm. Every time I step onboard, I feel like I'm home. It's such a great feeling. The Majesty has a big following, and I think you'll be a big fan just like the rest of us. I have not done that itinerary, but my daughter has. She didn't like the Caribbean as much as Bermuda, but that's just her personal choice. I've heard of so many others really enjoying it. We are both very partial to Bermuda. It's the most beautiful place I've ever seen. Have a great cruise!

Thanks for the replies-- Honestly though, I hit ALL the travel sites and talked to a TA and the NCL rate was the cheapest. I of course am monitoring for price drops etc, but was pleasantly surprised when the NCL rate came up as the cheapest.

The $50 deposit to get on the "upgrade list" is still puzzling me though!

HI,

I posted a short review of my 7/30/06 Boston Bermuda cruise a couple of weeks ago. Scroll back a few pages and you will find it.

I understand what you mean about smaller ships. I don't think that you will be

disappointed in the Majesty, she is a fine ship with a fine crew.

I would love to do the Charleston itenerary some day before she retires

As far as booking, one of my Majesty cruises were booked directly with NCL, and the other four were booked through an online agency. I was happy with the price and service of both, but tend to favor the particlar agency that I have been using.

We were upgraded to a cc superior (145sf) and it would have accomodated a third person very nicely. We were in 937, which had two twins, which coverted to a double and a fold down bunk.

My sister cruised with us, and was originally planning to share the cabin, but

our online agent told us about a single in a cabin special that NCL was offering, and for 140.00 more than adding her to our cabin, she was able to have her own cabin a few doors down.

Enjoy your cruise...I am in post cruise depression mode right now...but we all know what the cure for that is, right? :)

DH and I sailed on the Majesty last year for New Years. We sailed out of Charleston also. If you arrive too early and are driving, they will have the cars line up before being allowed to park in the parking garage, a crazy mixed up potentially dangerous situation arose. I would suggest staying at one of the local hotels prior to departure, the ones that allow you to park your car in their parking lot and they transfer you via shuttle to and from the port. We were charged around $ 130.00 for 11 night cruise to park in the port parking deck.

This was DH first cruise, my third ( but the first two were so long ago I don't think they count, lol). The ship is small, quaint and very easy to navigate. We were on the Majesty deck ( where the casino is) we had a superior oceanview room, nice size, big window, not obstructed. Our stewards were amazing, the staff super terrific. Food was either OK, good and great depending on the venue. Le Bistro can't be missed ( we ate there 3 times!) As for New Years, we had our dinner at Le Bistro that night and went to the Disco for a while. They also offered a ballroom type dance somewhere else, not sure where. The deck party was fun too and more casual. I think you will have a great time on this ship.

We had a different itinerary than yours so I cannot comment on your ports. I wish I had participated in more activities on the ship (martini tasting etc) but we spent most of our time in the casino.

Hope you have a great trip. :)

I don't have an answer for you on the upgrade waiting list, but I have found that if you book through a TA they can give you a better price. Check out one of the .com sites for prices. Don't forget to put in your state and age (if 55+) as they have residence and senior specials. Also, I think the service is great on the Majesty but prefer a larger ship. My sister and parents on the other hand LOVE the size of the Majesty.

macdays1 - only 44 more days......

It can't come soon enough! I'm getting so excited. No matter how many cruises I go on, I get just as excited each time. Keep on counting those days.

Bluedevil Since you brought it up--- how did you do in the casino:D

The Spirit's was a friend of mine, but the Dawn took me for more than I would have liked (though one or two machines paid nicely)

Thanks for the info on the new years-- it should be a grand time!!

To answer your question about how well we did in the casino -

we came home with 6 W2 forms  Of course we put ALOT of that back

through the machines. But they did pay for our LeBistro meals twice, ALL our spa treatments and all our shipboard account EXCEPT for our Internet and tips, well over $ 600.00 taken off. Make sure to sign up for the

Casino's at Sea program tho or you will not be rated. And remember to check in with the slot attendants when you get there so they can track your play ( Majesty does not have the players card that you slip into the machine which track your play, they do it manually). The service at the Casino was amazing. We were treated very very well. :)

We played mostly dollar machines, bet the max (2-3 bucks per spin)

DH did play the $ 5.00 machines some and hit there. Occassionaly I plopped down at a quarter or nickel machine but not for long. We liked the

double dollar machines best.

Good luck

We booked New Years cruise on Majesty this week, I have never cruised over a holiday before.

Should I reserve dinner at La Bistro? Is there a holiday bring in the New Year type party? Is the dress level more than casual for NY Eve?

Thanks in advance for any replies

Hi, we did a back to back first on the crown then on the majesty we did this so we could compare the to. Im going to be honest with you i really enjoyed the crown much better not alot of kids quiet peaceful, Full of activities, not croweded at all (at most it took us 57 seconds to get in a elevator) and the rooms Were huge i could actually liedown in the window Thats how big they were and we had just a obstructed view. the windows on the majesty were tiny but the majesty was good to but it was way to croweded the buffet was a joke and the staff was unfriendly, very weird layout of the ship,. But don't worry maybe we just got on a bad week. im sure you will have fun !!:)

P.S the casino on the MAjesty IS HUGE

I would suggest looking over the menus for each dining venue for each day, then if nothing appeals to you make your Le Bistro reservations ASAP. I could eat the mushroom soup EVERY day of my life it was that good, along with the escargot and filet - YUMMY.

We did dress up formal for NYE, DH wore his Tux and I a long black dress. Most everyone was dressed somewhat formal on NYE but some were very casual ( especially those who attended the deck party) Thats the great thing about NCL, you can choose to be formal or casual, your choice :D

There were about 3 different types of "partys" on NYE to choose from, visit one or all and have a ball.

Remember to take: an extension cord, a power strip and an over the door

shoe organizer also a hair dryer if you want your hair to dry in less than 2 hours, lol.

Thank you so much for the info on NYE.

I'm really very excited. This will be our first cruise with Norwegain .

Thanks for the tip about the hair dryer..a wet head on NYE wouldn't look good on me at all..

My GF and I have booked this cruise out of Charleston for New Years as well. We are a younger couple looking for a nearby getaway without having to drive to Florida from North Carolina.

We look forward to spending the New Years at sea, regardless of the ship.

This will be my second cruise. My first was in March aboard RCI's Sovereign. Not to hijack this thread, but anyone who has been on both RCI Sovereign OTS and NCL's Norweigan Majesty, can you tell me how the two compare? Before going on Sovereign, I read horrible reviews, etc. and wasnt expecting much, but I was very impressed and loved the smaller ship. So how does Norwegian Majesty compare to this ship specifically?
