Conquest August 13-20th Review

Hi Kcarp, pacerzfan, Vanessa, Nealstuber, texas greeneyes, adaleyldaley and the rest that I haven't mentioned.

So glad you've enjoyed my rather loooooog review. There was just so much to tell.

Vanessa, you will love both beaches. Clean, water is cool, blue, and beautiful. At Paradise beach, when you enter the pavillion go slightly to your left and head to the beach. There are 2-3 cold water springs bubbling up thru the sand. It's amazing.

At Sunset Beach, the water park is really great. There's even a "Lazy River" connecting the pools that you can float on with the supplied inner tubes. One of the slides is an open top slide like on the Conquest, the other is enclosed for about half the way down. When you get to the bottom of the slide go straight to the shallow water, if you head to the side of the pool the water will pull you back towards the slides. Makes it hard to get out of the deep end.

Just in case you need it the nurse's station in on the far side of the water park.

At Sunset you have to go get your own food and drinks. At Paradise they're delivered to you, but you have to pay for them. Take some money tho. The cheapest alcoholic drink (14 oz) is 6.50. The cheapest food is Chips and Salsa 5.50. The soft drinks are $2-3. Hair braiding is either $20 or $25. I believe the massage is $1 a minute I believe.

You can buy souvenirs at both places.

I'm trying to remember everything, so if I come back with more info it's because I've remembered something else.

There will be links to pictures posted here in the next day or two, so come back and see what we've posted. I believe our group posting their individual reviews here too. So, you should get a lot of other people's views on the cruise and the different excursions.

Thanks again all for the kind words and letting me know you wanted more. It gave me the courage I needed to post my review. I was afraid I wouldn't measure up to the cruisers.

Have a good one.

Deb

Thank you so much for your FUN and DETAILED review! We will be on the Conquest next Sunday and can hardly wait. We are planning on the same - Sunset Beach, Cat. Bryan, and Paradise. Glad you had a good time. It looks like you have been on the same ships as we have. So far we enjoyed the Celebration over Estcasy (even though we were in the Gulf with Katrina) and are hoping to make this our favorite.

We were on the Celebration 8/9-8/14 2004. We took our daughter on that one. Had to skirt Hurricane Bonnie. Made for some really fun pool time. Turned it into a wave machine.

I think you'll love the Conquest. It's alot bigger of course than the other two, but it's easy to navigate, by far the easier I think. It's not crowded, and there's more of a variety of things to do or not do. The casino is bigger - my downfall - I love the penny and nickle slots since I just play for fun.

Hope you have as great a time as I did - minus the spilt drinks and Fred Flintstone feet! Let us know how it was when you get back.

Have a safe trip there and back.

Great review Medic. You have such a great attitude, I would love to take a cruise with you some day. You DH would have to bring the humping puppy, though.

I have a male rabbit who is a little too fond of the (also male) kitties. Should I take pictures?

Thank you so much for the review! We are so looking forward to our cruise in December. This will be our first time in a balcony! Can't wait.

One way that Carnival could have compensated you on the formal night would have been to let you borrow a formal gown from the rentals that they have on hand. And then had your gown cleaned. Just a thought if there is ever a next time:eek: !

Again Thanks and we are counting the days until we sail!:)

Deb, what a wonderful walk down memory lane! I just got off the Conquest a few weeks ago and we did nearly the same things as you have described.... ( except replace your Bloody Mary's with Kahlua and Creme ha,ha... and also replace your song with Sweet Home Alabama ( my husband was singing with the band one night .. sigh...lol, anyone remember that on the Lido Deck? :D ) but thank you for taking the time to post.. I love this ship, she is beautiful.

ps to Okiemom, are the one and the same from okctalk.com ?

Now I wonder why she didn't think of that? That would have been a great solution. It would have beat smelling like a brewery! There won't be a next time, I'm gonna wear a rain poncho over my dress!

I'll be in Oklahoma next month to see my son. He lives in Sayre. I was there in June, Oklahoma is beautiful.

Hope the days between now and your cruise go by quickly. Wait, it will because Chrismas is coming and they always go by fast.

Happy Sailing.

Thanks Rob, what a nice thing to say. And yes, we'd bring poncho! We did the Feb 5th-12th 06 Conquest. We loved it. The water was a little rough, but it was a great cruise. Not as hot as this one.

Maybe I can talk DH into the Feb. 4th cruise, hmmmmm, let's see, our anniversary is Feb 10th, yeah, that works for me.

Have a great cruise. Just don't sit with your back to the aisles!

Medic thanks SO MUCH for such a great review!!!! Question though was there any problems bringing your own wines into the bars on the ship?? ;)

There was a bottle of wine and a bottle of champange taken in to Vincent's Lounge on Saturday night. There was also wine taken in to Alfred's Lounge on Saturday afternoon. There was also wine brought to our Sail-Away on the Sun Deck. On each of these occasions the wine/champagne was furnished by another passenger. There was never a problem that I saw, as is evidence by all the wine/champange I drank!!

Hope this helps.

Enjoy your cruise. I'm sure you'll have a blast!!

Medic,

Thanks for your review!! We are counting down till our turn, won't be long now!! Are there umbrellas available at Sunset beach, our group is doing that, and I am a redhead so I burn very easily. Hope your feet are back to normal now, I have had burned feet before, and I cringed when you mentioned yours. Thanks again for being so open.

First, thanks for your kind words.

Yes, there are umbrellas at Sunset, just try to get there as early as possible to get them. There are also some trees where you can spead your towel on the grass and sit or lay. You'll surely get burned to a crisp in that million degree sun shining down on you.

Feet still swollen. If I can just stay off them it would be great, but having to get up and walk around brings the swelling back. But hey, it's such a small price to pay for the great time. Plus, I have no one to blame but myself for being such an idiot. :(

Gotta give my public announcement speech - the one I should have heeded! Remember, alcohol dehydrates you and makes you do dumb things - my red swollen feet are living proof! So, stay in the shade as much as possible and drink some water along with the fabulous foo-foo drinks available. OK, mama speech over now. :D

Go, have a blast, bring back wonderful memories, but leave the sunburn at the islands.

Be sure to let us know how it went.

Medic- Thanks! What an excellent review. It makes me so excited to be on the ship. We're going October 8! Woo hoo!

One quick question about the wine. Forgive me if this is silly, but... What did you pour the wine into in order to drink it? Did someone bring wine glasses on board or were there some in the rooms or did the bar let you use some? Just curious. First time cruiser :)

First let me say that I am in awe of your liver. Mine would have revolted the first day.

Great review. Great attitude about things that went wrong. Your expectations were right on point where the drink mess was concerned. I hope Carnival does the right thing by you...although a little to late in my book.

Here's to warm breezes, calm seas and cool drinks (from the glass to the tummy ~ where they belong!)

The picture you posted of Sunset Beach is just Awesome. We are going to be on the Conquest 10/15/06 and we cannot wait. I am counting down the days (only 54 left) and our group will be going to Sunset Beach. I really enjoyed your review and I am also sorry for your mishaps, but you had a very good attitude about it and continued to enjoy yourself. We are also doing the Stingray excursion (through Carnival) and going to Paradise Beach in Cozumel. So your review was very helpful. Thank you and if you think of anything else please post it. Also, if you have more pictures I would love to see them.

Thanks so much for the kind words.

You have several options for drinking containers:

1. There are 2 wine glasses in each room (if you plan to share make the others bring the glasses out of their room)

2. You can ask for glasses at the bar

3. You can bring some disposable cups with you or those plastic champagne cups.

Hope this helps.

I'm envious of you. I wish I was going on my first cruise again. Oh the excitement! I'm still just as excited each time, but nothing like that first time.

I know you'll have a wonderful time. Let us know how it went when you get back.

Believe me, I only drink like this on cruises. There's no way I could handle this on a regular basis.

Thanks for you kind words. Yeah, I know I say that alot! But I mean it. Short of them tossing me overboard for destroying my liver I wasn't going to let anything spoil my cruise. I could have stomped around mad the entire cruise, but what good would that have done? It would have ruined it for my family and me. That would have been silly. A dress can be cleaned. Rudeness can be overlooked, a cut will heal (wish these Fred Flintstone feet would!) Accidents happen. No sense in being mad at the world for one accident and what a waste of time and money.

I still had a blast, and now I have a funny story to tell everyone about my cruise.

Take Care and don't let the mishaps turn you into an old grouch. :D
