Carribe Hilton in San Juan?

Hello Everyone. Was wondering if anyone has recently stayed at the Carribe Hilton Hotel in San Juan for pre-cruise. Any information would be appreciated. How far from pier? Are taxi's readily available? How expensive are the taxis? Any info on the hotel itself? I heard there was some construction work being done.

Thanks in advance.:)

We spent a week there (free on Hilton points:) ) in Feb. 2005. Very nice property with a great pool and nice beach. Taxi's are always available. About 2 miles from Old San Juan and the piers. There is a convenience store close by, and restaurants within walking distance.

We too stayed there precruise this past April 2006. Hotel is large with A mortons Steaks house, a more casual restaurant and a great tapas restaurant.

They have pretty grounds a nice man-made PRIVATE lagoon beach that was great for snorkeling. You may rent all kinds of beach stuff at a little kiosk.

Had a swim up bar a nice pools. We took a cab to El Morro which was very interesting and then walked through Old San Juan which is a combination outlet mall and old interesting architecture.

We also rented a car (available on the property) and drove to El Yunque - excellent park!

We also took a cab to Condado and checked out the casinos and other hotels and restaurants.

Hotel is a little remote for walking to other places, but cabs are readily available and reasonable.

If you go to the flyertalk website and go to the Hilton boards and search caribe hilton you'll come up with lots of other details!

Enjoy ....it is a good hotel to kick off your cruise!
