Mysticks1 Posted August 31, 2006 #30 Share Posted August 31, 2006 We just got off the Ecstasy (8/21-26). Our Sign and Sail for the four of us for five nights was $466.00. That included $200.00 for tips, $23.00 for one child's soda card, $17.00 for a Build-A-Bear, about $50.00 in purchases at the stores on board and the rest in, shall we say, "adult beverages". I have a glass of wine with dinner each night (we bought a bottle one night and had them save the rest til the next night), and usually one frosty drink each day by the pool or at the show, sometimes both. We did bring two bottles of wine on board, (Yellowtail at Wal-Mart, about $7.00 each) and enjoyed a glass while getting ready for dinner. Hubby can drink a little more than me... But I have to say that I thought the drinks were a little more expensive than on RCI last year, beers were $4.50 as compared to $3.50 and DOD was about $7.50+ as compared to $5.95. Still I thought we did all right for four people on a five nighter. However I have to qualify that we didn't buy any photos, our daughter is getting them for us with her staff discount. And we did get to visit the crew bar with our "Crew Family Passes", you can drink pretty cheap in there and pay cash, so those drinks aren't on our Sign & Sail. And we booked our excursions privately and paid for them in cash. So it's all pretty individual and depends on what you like to do. Build A Bear?? They have that on the ship? I hope not:( . DD can't pass one up so that would be an expense for me. I never saw that last year on the Conquest. Is this something new? Can anyone give me any information on it and if anyone has seen this on the Fantasy? Thanks.
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted August 31, 2006 #31 Share Posted August 31, 2006 Our BIGGEST S&S tab has been about $3,000 (THANKS to the Casino... ) Our SMALLEST S&S tab has been ZERO a few times (once again, THANKS to the Casino...:D ) Typically, with average STUFF charged on there (assuming that the casino did NOT exist  ) we average between $600 to $1,200. DqALEX Posted August 31, 2006 #32 Share Posted August 31, 2006 I will be going on a 5 day cruise on Carnival Ectasy. I'm trying to get a fill for how much money I will be spending on the ship. I don't plan to buy much on the ship .....maybe a some drinks. So roughly how much was your tab at the end of the cruise? Also I know they put a hold on your card, how much is the hold? Is the hold per card or person. My husband and I will be using the same card, so just need to make sure neither one of us goes on a shopping spree without telling the other  Thanks A phone call from my cabin got me for over 200 on the Celebration. NEVER AGAIN

cruisebabe43 Posted August 31, 2006 #34 Share Posted August 31, 2006 I think ours was around $800 for the two of us this last time on the Glory 7 day. Mostly drinks, some casino cash, tips, more drinks, a few small souvenirs, more drinks. I guess you know where I am going with this. Drinks are expensive. Even soda and water. We will be bringing our own bottled water from now on for excusions. Don't want to pay for the water when I leave the ship next time.

Drinks must have gone up on RCL then... in Feb, I was paying I believe $8.25 for the drinks of the day... I believe the beers were in the $4 range. newmexicoNita Posted August 31, 2006 #37 Share Posted August 31, 2006 It appears all cruise lines have raised their drink prices in the past year. Princess still is the least expensive I believe. As for how much we spend: usually we allow about $100 per day including everything. NMNita
centralcalicruzer Posted August 31, 2006 #38 Share Posted August 31, 2006 Mysticks: They aren't "real" Build-A Bears, it was called "make your own bear" or something like that. It was $16.99 and you got to choose between a light brown or dark brown bear, stuff it yourself, and then decorate a t-shirt that was included in the price. They had it as an optional activity in Camp Carnival, different days for the different age groups. You then got a birth certificate and a box kind of like the Build-A-Bear boxes. I thought it was a pretty good price for the activity and what you got. Goincruisin: We were on RCI last October and I know my husband was only paying $3.50 a beer because I remember thinking that wasn't too bad. I also remember thinking that the DOD wasn't too bad either, I honestly don't remember the exact price, it could have been $6.50 but I know it wasn't over $7.00. But I would guess the cruise lines are trying to make up for increased fuel costs by raising drink prices instead of cabin prices!
Evilgrin72 Posted August 31, 2006 #39 Share Posted August 31, 2006 Last year the GF and I did the 5 day on Inspiration out of Tampa - 2 ports (this is relevant b/c the more time you're on islands, the less you're spending onboard.) Sign 'N' Sail came to $882.00 - $100 of which was gratuities and about $60 was onboard purchases at the gift shop. The rest was drinks.
dexter Posted August 31, 2006 #40 Share Posted August 31, 2006 My wife and I always have the best of intentions that we aren't going to spend over $100...what a laugh. We go to the art auctions several times and the best laid plans are scratched. I enjoy having several drinks and I usually buy my wife something from the jewelry "sale". One cruise it all added up to about $1500, but usually it's under $1000. You only live twice.

agabbymama Posted September 1, 2006 #42 Share Posted September 1, 2006 For our five day cruise, we paid the tips in cash, and we took our own separate money for the casino, and our S&S bill was $180. That was a couple of drinks, a couple of souvenirs and pictures. The pictures are what add up. At $20 a pop, it doesn't take many to really put the cost up. We only bought 1 complete set, then opted to just get the wallets of the rest of the pics they took. They do manage to take a lot, even on a five day cruise, I think they took 5 or 6 photos at different times. Just a word of warning, be very careful, it's easy to just keep putting things on the S&S card, then have a heart attack when you get the bill. Remember what you have purchased and the amount. I tried to keep a daily tally, so there wasn't that huge bill at the end of the cruise. They do give you a receipt each time something is charged to your card, so it's easy to keep a daily tab, but it's also easy to run that bill into the thousands. Have a great cruise.:D
