zaandam_2 Posted September 1, 2006 #76 Share Posted September 1, 2006 have you told him food and entertainment is free? ok, its included but you can leave that part out. also you might want to warn him about the $10 per day per person tips too. you don't want any major surprises when you get there. momofzeke Posted September 1, 2006 #77 Share Posted September 1, 2006 Anatresia ~ here are some reasons your hubby will enjoy the cruise: Get pampered and waited on hand & foot for a week. Lounge by the pool, maybe take a dip, and watch the funny antics of the Hairy Chest Contest and other crazy poolside games. Or, if he'd rather have peace & quiet ~ go to the aft "adults only" pool. Go to the gym and workout. Enjoy good food, any time of the day. Go to the art auction. Dance in the disco. Sing Karaoke. Enjoy the piano bar. Gamble in the casino. Play bingo. Take in the comedy shows and vegas-style production shows. Enjoy the ports. Lots of new things to try, depending on where you'll be. Enjoy some romance time with each other. Take in some of the games on the ship, Newlywed/Not so Newlywed; Trivia; just to name a couple. Attend the Captains Cocktail Party for free drinks and snacks. These are just a few of the things you can do on a cruise. Hope you two work it out and enjoy your cruise! :)

casmichele Posted September 1, 2006 #80 Share Posted September 1, 2006 I tried describing to my husband how much fun he would have on his first cruise, and although he was excited about going and getting away from home and work for a week, words just really couldn't explain how much fun it is. He just had to go and see for himself. Now he's hooked. For a man to imagine having all the free food he can eat, access to a gym, sex all day and night, and just no cares in the world is like Candyland to a kid. If you two can sit down and compromise on a date to leave and the length of time for your first cruise, that might work out better than 'making' him go. billsrobb Posted September 1, 2006 #81 Share Posted September 1, 2006 The problem with the date is I'm a teacher and can't get a week off any other time in the year, other than summer and we just don't want to go in summer (heat, hurricanes). we're from Buffalo, so getting away to someplace warm in April will be nice, too. I'm not worried about him getting there and hating it. I know him too well- he will love it. The relaxation, the food... he can't NOT love it. Where abouts in Buffalo are you from? I used to live there too.

Anatresia Posted September 1, 2006 Author #83 Share Posted September 1, 2006 Where abouts in Buffalo are you from? I used to live there too. North Buffalo, near the Kenmore border. It's a nice place to live (in the summer). Lots to do, good location to other fun stuff, etc. :D
cusyl Posted September 1, 2006 #84 Share Posted September 1, 2006 I like the idea of a separate vacation fund, although we don't have one...we look at vacation money different that regular money. LOL We spend money on cruises that we would never spend at home. If you do that it would probably please him more as planned spending. Being frugal is not a bad thing, but everyone needs a vacation and a cruise is the best bargain around. (50 years married and cruise #34 coming up):D :D
Perrys100 Posted September 1, 2006 #85 Share Posted September 1, 2006 Have him read CC. Have him searchout info on the ports. AND make the final payment soooooooN...then he will not even consider cancelling a NON_refundable cruise! IF he flakes...change the name= 50.00 and take his brother ( just kidding)!! Make final payment= NON-refundable!!
winking_chick Posted September 1, 2006 #86 Share Posted September 1, 2006 Drag him anyway! That is what I'm doing and.... I just so happened to be married to the biggest grouch on planet earth! I just keep my overwhelming joy to myself. (he'll catch up later!) When it's time to go-he WILL follow. The F-deck advice is probably going to help too! He will have a great time!;) BTW- We've been married 16 years. Grouchy or not that ball & chain is the love of my life!
AppleValleyCruisers Posted September 1, 2006 #87 Share Posted September 1, 2006 A Wicked Weasel and something naughty from V.S. wouldn't hurt either ;) Or the swimsuit featured on Alsbikinis.com today, although I don't know that it would pass muster on the Lido deck:eek: Hint, hint, Liv.....;)

trvlcrzy Posted September 1, 2006 #89 Share Posted September 1, 2006 trvlcrzy -Thank you so much for sharing your videos. Never seen home videos done so well. You made our morning! Can't take credit! Those aren't mine. Another great couple had those posted on the web. I found the link in another thread on CC, and I've spent a lot of time "vacationing" today myself. I am trying to get away from Ernesto today. No school... I'm a teacher.

Mysticks1 Posted September 1, 2006 #95 Share Posted September 1, 2006 http://www.gatorclaw.com/ I can't believe that I didn't think of these before but the other video link reminded me of these. Go to this link and look at the very top of the page for Jason's Carnival Cruise vacations. They are CC members and that is his business website. He creates videos. ( How cool is that?) There are three video links listed. You will love them. I have watched all several times and it makes me want to be on a ship everytime. Hope this helps you. :)
stanimal Posted September 1, 2006 #96 Share Posted September 1, 2006 I guess I am the only reader here who identifies with the husband in this. Hi, my name is Stan, and I am cheap. Fortunately my wife is not, she's a good opposite for me (after all, if we were exactly alike, one of us would not be neccesary). I know after we book a cruise, or are about to make a large purchase I need to be assured that it's a good idea. So I start throwing out the "why are we buying the china cabinet again" "do we really need to get a new car", etc. It sounds alot like the husband in this is doing the same type of thing. I didn't hear to OP say he "threatened" to cancel as some have stated, I heard her say he brings it up and opens it up for discussion. Ultimately, the OP reminds him why they booked the cruise, and why it will be fun. I think he's just needing reassurance of that. Just keep reminding him why you booked the trip, do some research on the ports, and engage him in the trip. Maybe tell him he is in charge of the excursions at one of the ports of call. Just my two cents.
newmexicoNita Posted September 1, 2006 #97 Share Posted September 1, 2006 Yikes, don't be in a hurry to have children with this guy. You may want to consider counseling or meeting with your pastor to find out why he doesn't want to spend money and wants to control your fun. I wish you the best of luck.Sincerely, Ms B I don't quite think not wanting to spend cruising is trying to control anyones fun not is it reason for counceling. He is obviously torn between wanting to cruise and not wanting to; some people spend their money one way, some another and some not at all. newmexicoNita Posted September 1, 2006 #98 Share Posted September 1, 2006 No offense, but it sounds like your marriage is in more trouble than you think. It is not going to get better once you have kids. Seek counseling (for the record, married 19 yrs) I have been married 48 years; probably as happy a marriage anyone could ever have and there were many times (especially in the early years) when we totally disagreed on where and how to spend money and vacations as a matter of fact. xgdgirl Posted September 1, 2006 #99 Share Posted September 1, 2006 One vacation, cruise or otherwise is not the issue here. As a professional counselor I seriously recommend counseling for you both as soon as possible. You two are on different wavelengths and should deal with these things BEFORE you ever consider children. My sentiments exactly! This has nothing to do with a vacation and everything to do with control. I hope she takes your recommendation before she has children. Afterwards is a whole new ballgame and life is no longer so cut and dried.
MauiLvrs Posted September 1, 2006 #100 Share Posted September 1, 2006 ... I started booking a hotel near the airport for the night before we leave to go anywhere. He seems to be calmer knowing he is closer and won't miss his flight. Kim Don't under estimate the benifit of this. And to make things better, although sometimes more expensive, consider booking the hotel through the line. It can make the boarding process much less stressfull.
