prospero Posted September 1, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2006 Please can anyone tell us about taking a trip on a riverboat? We're in New Orleans overnight (next February) and then not sailing until 1800. Is it possible to do it yourself, or will we have to sign up on the ship (P and O) trip? Rare steamboats Posted September 1, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 1, 2006 prospero, Check with the steamboat Natchez http://www.neworleanssteamboat.com/ This is an original steamboat propelled by a paddlewheel. You can visit the engine room. Prior to departure there´s a calliope concert (steam organ). The Natchez dock is at Toulouse Street Wharf next to the Jax Brewery and within a walking distance of the Riverwalk Mall. They are doing a narrated harbor cruise at 11:30 am (til 1:30 pm) Fri - Sun and at 2:30 pm (-4:30 pm) Wed-Sun. You don´t have to sign up anywhere, just walk up to the ticket booth at the wharf and get your ticket. Next to the Riverwalk Mall there´s also the paddlewheeler Creole Queen (http://www.neworleanspaddlewheels.com/), but this is a diesel boat, no steamboat. steamboats
jgmpuma Posted September 2, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 2, 2006 The Natchez is a great trip. We are planning to go this weekend (they have a special for Louisiana residents). I would take the Harbor Cruise instead of the dinner cruise: the food on the dinner cruise is OK, but not great. If you go here http://www.neworleanscoupons.com you can get a coupon for $3.00 off.
