We are looking for a Maine Lobster Bake in Portland. The ship offers a shore excursion but we wanted to see if some one knew of an alternative. Any info?

Has anyone done the Maine Lobster Bake shore excursion with Carnival? If so, what was the cost per adult/child?

Hi, I live in Portland. In the summer there are lobster bakes on House Island off Portland. But, usually they stop after Oct. 15. If you want lobster, no need to take a tour. There are lots of places that serve lobster in walking distance from the dock. I like Gilbert's on Commercial St. Looks like a hole in the wall but has award winning clam chowders and lobsters anyway you want them. Also, try Old Port Grill on Commercial St. for more upscale.It's right across the street from dock on Commercial St. near Hilton.

What should one expect to pay for a lobster meal? Are any "specials" offered or better times vs. other times for dining?

This is a family run lobster pound, where you can pick out your own live lobster(s); they'll cook it for you; and you can eat it out on one of their picnic tables overlooking the working waterfront. Can't get much more authentic than that!

 

If it's not a nice warm day, then opt for one of the restaurants in the same vicinity. Have fun!
