crbonfiber Posted September 5, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2006 Oh boy it looks like Explorer, and me will be sailing into this big storm. I sure hope we dont get switched to 9 nite New England and Canada! http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at1+shtml/204636.shtml?5day?large
MGoBlue2 Posted September 5, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2006 I don't think getting past it on the way down will be a problem just hug the eastern seaboard some. I'd worry more about getting back home, if this would happen to be the "big one" overdue to hit NYC.
cruisinfanatic Posted September 5, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 5, 2006 Chances are you'll be going to Labadee first or maybe even Jamaica.
crbonfiber Posted September 5, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted September 5, 2006 Well I guess Jamaica is alot better than Newport RI and Boston....LOL
Sue L Posted September 5, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 5, 2006 It's all part of the adventure sailing during hurricane season. I am getting on when you get off. Sue
thepasta Posted September 5, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 5, 2006 I'm on this Friday as well. Hell... I'd be fine with it just sailing out for a few days rather than to go to Canada :)
crbonfiber Posted September 5, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted September 5, 2006 I think last year Voyager of the Seas went to Canada. The passangers got so angry. So I hope they dont try it again!
GMoney Posted September 5, 2006 #8 Share Posted September 5, 2006 Maybe your Captain will do like Captain Pettersen did last year and whisk you up to Canada. Then all the malcontents can sue with the NJ AG. :D Or maybe a rogue wave will hit you...
thepasta Posted September 5, 2006 #9 Share Posted September 5, 2006 If we go to Canada... I'll need a rogue wave of Jack Daniels :)
wrp96 Posted September 5, 2006 #10 Share Posted September 5, 2006 Hmm, let me see. Choice between sailing into a hurricane or sailing to Canada...I'll take sailing to Canada every single time.
Sue L Posted September 5, 2006 #11 Share Posted September 5, 2006 What do you have against Canada? we did the Canadian cruise a couple of years ago and it was wonderful. Do I want to go there instead of Bermuda, YES if a hurricane is in the way. We have even researched excursions "just in case" . If you don't want any itinerary changes due to hurricanes you should have never booked during the season. Sue
thepasta Posted September 5, 2006 #12 Share Posted September 5, 2006 Ooopfa... relax, notice the smiley :) Of course I would rather go to Canada then go through a hurricane. But if I had the choice of going to Canada right now or sailing in the sun to no where... I'd go with the sun. I am however aware of the itinerary changes during hurricane season and have no serious complaints... but thank you for the advice in any case :)
RI_Cruiser Posted September 5, 2006 #13 Share Posted September 5, 2006 They might do pull a western itin on you but based on the latest track it is still a good amount of water between you and projected path.
peanutJMV Posted September 5, 2006 #14 Share Posted September 5, 2006 I dont think we need to worry so much, if you look at the map appears will be between bahamas and burmuda Sat/Sun. Will probably hug the coast then cross over and go around Bermuda to avoid it or reverse itinerary. By the time we get down there it should be out of our way. Might hit some rocky seas though......... Thats is no more storms show up. Sail every year this time, believe me the captains know what they are doing. RoofingPrincess Posted September 5, 2006 #16 Share Posted September 5, 2006 based on WeatherUnderground's forecast, it looks like the ship's normal path might take them right through it... depends on how far out the ship goes on the way to St Thomas... it's still early enough that the projected path differs widely depending on who you listen to... Seems kinda far. I think Pasta man is right we will need a huge wave of Jack Daniels.

If you are getting your undies in such a bunch over this, why on earth did you book a cruise during basically ground zero of hurricane season? peanutJMV Posted September 6, 2006 #21 Share Posted September 6, 2006 No, Im not a seacaptain, yes it is quite a trip to bermuda but its been done. Sailed NCL 2 years ago from NYC and this is exactly the route we took. Took nearly 3 days to get there but we arrived safe and sound.. If you look at RC itinerary map it sails close to the coast then crosses over towards bermuda anyway. (Think I found it on crusieclues.com) Peanut are you a Sea Captain? I sure hope so.
