nikkiandbean Posted September 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2006 Hi there, we're docking at Livorno and want to get a taxi into Pisa for a couple of hours just to see the Leaning Tower. Are there taxis at the dock when you arrive or do you have to pre-book them? Don't want to do an organised tour as have a 20 month old daughter and Florence, although very beautiful, is just too far. Have read from previous threads that Livorno docks may be very commercial so don't know if you easily get a taxi there. Thanks for your help in advance and if anyone would know how long the transfer/rough costings that would be great.
Rare carlmm Posted September 11, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2006 There is no need to pre-book a taxi. Taxis are available right at the dock. Transfer time should be well below one hour even in the case of heavy traffic. Drivers will try to sell you a roundtrip.
Rare Hlitner Posted September 11, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 11, 2006 There will be taxis on the pier (at one end of the ship). It only takes about 15 - 20 min to drive from the pier into Pisa and the taxis will want to negotiate a rate based on time. This may cost you over 100 Euros for the short drive plus waiting time. Another option is get a taxi to the Livorno train station and take the train to Pisa (15 minutes on the train and a long walk to the tower or a taxi).
