Are there pros and cons for each site? I am cruising April 25 from SJU and want to know if it is too early to book a pre-cruise hotel?

I am not an expert, have only bid once on priceline but was very pleased and it was easy.

Hotwire, you purchase hotel rooms with certain star levels and amenities but you do not know the name of the hotel until you have made your purchase.

On Priceline, you can purchase hotels named and at a price or you can bid on rooms. When bidding you submit your location, star level, and price, credit card, and they tell you if you won.

Better bidding dot com has a lot of information on hotwire and priceline to help you with your decisions.

Good luck if you decide to give it a try.

Priceline bid accepted for 1 night - Feb. 5, 2010

San Juan - Resorts

Intercontinental

$91.00 plus $18.07 taxes = total $109.07

:)

Do you happen to be going on the Serenade on the 6th?

We stayed at the Intercontinental in 2008 post cruise and it was lovely. Beautiful pool and grounds and the staff were so nice.

Yes we are on the Serenade leaving Feb. 6th. This is our first time on that class ship (usually do Voyager class) but have heard great things about the Serenade. Glad to hear of your positive stay at the Intercontinental. Only staying that one night but looking forward to the pool (especially since we are flying in from cold New England)!

We are in Iowa so I know what you mean about flying in from the cold! I don't think you will be disappointed in the Serenade at all - it is a beuatiful ship. (We loved the Jewel as well.)

The Intercontinental has awesome loungers by the pool with neck roll pillows they check out to you; they have removeable terry cloth covers. Very condusive to afternoon naps!! :D There is a grocery store across the street if you need to pick up water, pop, etc. for the ship.

Anyone ever have luck bidding on a hotel room near the Carnival Terminal? We bid last year, but was unable to be close to the port. Any tricks to get a room at the Sheraton, etc?

Use this site http://hotelplusportal.com/default.aspx

Price will be about same as Hotwire will give. And no guess as to which hotel.

Just got the Intercontinental for Jan 1 2010 two rooms at 93.00 a room. I know some of you online were able to snag a room there for $91.00 but I thought I might have a more difficult time bidding because it is a Friday of a holiday weekend. Thanks for all the tips on how to bid for the Intercontinental.

Wow...am I glad I found this thread!! Just reserved the Intercontinenal San Juan for $90 (with tax and $5 insurance = $113.07) Booked for 4/16/10 (one night prior to cruise) Do they add a resort fee???

Funny- I was turned down yesterday for $90.00 per night on the exact same day but I was excepted for bid of $91.00. I'm not complaining, I'm so excited about my $91.00 deal!

They do charge a resort fee whether you pay full price or not. We stayed there in Feb. post cruise for$318 including breakfast. Since Celebrity had cut our Summit cruise by a day they paid $300 of it. I'm thrilled that I'll be paying less than 1/2 that for New Years Day 2010

Number of nights: 1 (pre-cruise)

Hotel: Intercontinental San Juan Resort Spa & Casino

Rating: Resort

Area: San Juan

Site: Priceline

Winning Bid: $88

Taxes & Service Fees: $17.82

Here's how:

I chose zone 6 (San Juan) and Resorts Bid $75 - rejected

added zone 1 (Cabo) re-bid $80 - rejected

added zone 2 (Dorado) re-bid $85 - rejected

added zone 3 (Maya) re-bid $88 - ACCEPTED!

I could have had one more try by adding zone 4 (Ponce), but I didn't need it.

Thank to cruise critic and betterbidding.com!:D

My first time using Priceline - initially bid $80, then re-bid $90 and was accepted - 2 rooms for Feb 26, 2010 pre-cruise. Woo-Hoo! Cruise travel planning is now complete! Thank you all for the wealth of information!

Booked the Marriot Stellaris Hotel for $86.

Here's what I did for my upcoming cruise Aug 23

San Juan

Resorts

Bid $80 - rejected

San Juan + Zone 1

Resorts

Bid $86 (betcha I could have bid $81) - accepted.

This is fun...

If anyone gets lower let me know so I can say darn. I previous poster got it for $80 around the same time...then relooking at bids, someone got the intercont for $91 - so I picked 86...
