Hawaii car rentals

Hello,

 

Thankyou for all the help with my Luau question. I did book the Old Lahania Luau.

 

My question this time is,,car rentals. Is Thrifty better than Dollar or Disocunt. We are the POH and want a SUV or full size car for 2 couples for each day in port. This is how we will sight see.

 

Is there one rental company that doesn't charge for 2 drivers as well as insurance per driver. The 2 guys will drive while the gals sight see. Any suggestions as to one company that is better or easier to get to in the port. I thought I saw a rental company that they didn't charge for 2 drivers who wasn't a spouse.

 

Any ideas ???

All of the rental car companies are at the Kahului airport. In our experience, there's really nothing to recommend one over the other except price. Avis doesn't charge for the spouse to be a second driver, neither did Alamo, but I have no idea about a third party as a second driver. I can't recall any that allow a second driver at no charge (except a spouse, as noted). Check and see if your auto insurance covers you in Hawaii. No reason it shouldn't as most cover you throughout the US. If so, there's no reason to purchase the rental company insurance for either driver. The only thing that might make a difference is making sure that the company you choose does have a shuttle from the port to the airport location. Most do.
