charlielinda Posted September 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2006 We are sailing on the Zenith on November 3 and one of our ports is Catalina Island, DR which I understand is a uninhabited island. Celebrity still does not show any excursions for this port. I am working on the assumption that it will be a beach day. Has anyone been there in the past year or two on a Celebrity ship? Can you tell us anything about it? Does anyone know when they would post the excursions? THANKS!

I had relatives who lived there for many years, and I worked there many summers. I also went to YMCA camp there several years, and have hiked over most of it and ridden horses over much of it. It is really a tourist place, and the excursions into the inland areas will be most interesting. A seal rock trip is also fun. The museum in the 'casino' is very interesting. The water there is crystal clear, and you will see some fish during the glass bottom boat tours you will see nowhere else. I used to fish there and watch the fish go after the bait 30 or more feet down. The water is quite chilly, however, if you chose to snorkel or scuba. Have fun! cruzy-sue Posted September 20, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2006 I was there last summer (not on Celebrity unfortunately) but there were definitely excursions offered. I seem to recall taking a trollley tour around the island with a driver who was so un-funny but laughed at all her own jokes. There is a lot of shopping there. Good place to pick up souveniers. But lots of people live on the island.

When our Millennium Cruise four years ago stopped at Catalina Island, Celebrity provided a nice BBQ lunch for its passengers to eat while enjoying a day at the beach. This private island was a nice change from the typical Caribbean Ports, and reminded me of what it was like to be in the Caribbean many years ago.
