Do they have ATM machines on the ships? We are leaving on 10/1 on the Miriacle..My hubby just asked me, in case he wants to get more cash.:) :D

Also, what amenities do they have in the bathrooms in the little baskets. I remember razor, mints..etc. Is it still the same?

Yes, there is an ATM on the ship, but remember it will charge you a fee and your bank will probably charge you as well. Also, I have heard that they tend to run out of cash early on. But, you can also write a personal check (I believe) at the purser's desk and have it cashed without being charged a fee. They also cash traveler's checks without a fee at the purser's desk.

The bathroom baskets have things like Rolaids chews, toothpaste, conditioner (shampoo and shower gel/body wash is in the dispenser in the shower stall), mouth wash, disposable razors, etc... I think you can get more samples of things from either your cabin steward or the purser's desk if you need to.

Yes they do have ATM 's on the ship, but a pretty hefty fee if you use it. I asked at the pursers desk about cashing a check and they said you had to have an American Express card to cash a check. You still get the basket with ammenities, different things on different ships. Usually razors, floss, mints and such things. We are going on the Miracle Oct. 22 can't wait.

That's right, I'd forgotten about that requirement. However, you can cash traveler's checks without having an American Express card.

i have been on miracle. there is an atm, its in the casino lol. guess thats a good place for it. be prepared. your bank will charge their normal fee for an atm thats not theirs and the ships is 5.00. take money once if needed to avoid more fees than you need.

You will definitely get raked if you use the shipboard ATM. You can also draw cash off of your sail and sign (if credit card based) in the casino (shows as a shipboard charge, not a cash advance) for amount drawn + 3%.

Amenity baskets on the Miracle sailing of 9/3 included several flavors of Crest toothpaste samples, mens and womens razors, several packages of EmergenC, and some Vaseline lotion.

To avoid the fees just charge to your sail and sign there is a 3% fee which is much cheaper then what the credit card company is going to charge you for a cash advance.

When it is billed to you credit card at the end of your cruise providing thats how you set up your sail and sign, then it will read only that it is a charge to carnival and it will not count as a cash advance on your credit card.

Ok...two stupid questions....LOL!

Why would you need cash? DH and I jsut went to the bankk today to get cash but we can't think of what we would need it for---aren't you suppose to charge everything to the sign and sail?? Is it the Casino that only accepts cash???

Also, now this will seem really dumb.....but is there are chage if you take items out of the basket--i.e the lotion, razors etc?? I just want to be sure before I go and take out a 10 cent razor then get billed $10!

LOL:confused:

I would not recommend using your ATM onboard. My Brother wanted to withdraw $20 once and the fees were like $5 or something stupid (25% of his withdraw!). Pursers desk will cash travlers checks (free from most banks). I only bring money for the casino and tips.

Bathroom basket items are complementary. I just got off the Conquest and had 2 razor's, and 4 individual packets of toothpaste. That's it!!! We use to get lotion, shampoo, tooth flos etc.... but free is free. There has always been a shampoo and body soap dispenser in the shower

Now, in all seriousness, this is the type of question I enjoy reading the most: honest, light-hearted, totally innocent, non-threatening and funny. The only thing I enjoy more are pictures! ;)

THEY NO LONGER CASH PERSONAL CHECKS AT ALL, EVEN WITH AN AMEX CARD PRESENT.

But travelers checks can be cashed or applied to your onboard account.

Cash you may need might be for the casino, but you can get cash off your onboard account for a small 3% fee.

You may need some cash if you want to tip service personnel/bartenders extra.

And cash for your shore excursion travels...

I usually take for my cruise like $100 in 5's, $100 in 1's, and like $200 in 20's. What I don't use, I use for my parking garage fee, bus/taxi, food or drink, tips at the airport etc...

The items in the Basket in the bathroom are Free, and if you want some more just ask your cabin steward.

We took 800.00 cash and spent 500.00 of it.

You will need cash for the following:

Bingo, 20.00 a shot

Casino, Lots of money :D

Extra Tips, Steward, Waiters, Cabs, Hotels, excursions etc.

Pre-Cruise, Food, Cabs and excursions

Private Excursions, and their tips

Shore/Port Gifts

Gas Money if you are driving

Airport Food and Magazines

Someone please add to the list, I'm sure there are more.

You can get by with credit for almost everything but the casino on board. On shore, however, having cash is eseential ... especially small bills. Many smaller places will say they can't make change in American money. Definitely do not expect to go to a street vendor or small cafe and have them break your $100.

There is another way around the ATM's, but takes some preplanning...A casino marker/creditline.

It keeps you from having to carry a bunch of cash and in reality a casino marker is a check. You fill out the application and they verify you have a fair amount of cash in your account and approve a creditline for XX dollars.

You need 50 bucks?

Go to casino cage and take it out.

No charge

You can either repay the marker upon returning or within 30 days (interest free)

Many casinos are kind of funny...if you take the marker, play and lose it, they give you 30 days no interest to repay.

If you take the marker and do not play(gamble), they'll call the marker to the bank right away.

When you "sign a marker" (take the money), you're signing what is basically a negotiable check.

Bottomline - fill out app and get the approval, leave cash in the checking account, and take out cash at casino cage whenever you want or need...no fees

I wouldn't count on the ship's ATM. My sister did that once and it was broken. She ended up getting money at an ATM in Cozumel and exchanging the pesos for American currency. Our advice now is to bring all the cash we plan on using versus getting it there.

...

When did they change this policy??

It used to be that you could cash a personal check up to $250 if you held an Amex card. I have never had to use it but I often post is as a suggestion in threads like this! I guess I will have to stop giving out that suggestion! :)
