what is a group?

We are looking to plan a family reunion cruise to Alaska. Can anyone tell me how many cabins are required on Celebrity to get a group discount? Will this discount be better than - or in addition to - other discounts such as discounts for repeat cruisers or military/ veterans?

Hi,

There is no such animal as a group discount. However a group does consist of 8 or more cabins booked and linked together. If this is set up through 'group bookings' one member is designated a group leader and their cruise fare is comped. Not the cabin, but the one individual. So either you can cruise for free, or divide you comp between your group and share the savings. Remember 8 cabins minimum so if you have ten cabins booked and your cruise fare is 799.00 per person, that would only be a reduction of 79.00 per cabin or a discount of $39.50 per person based on double occupancy... So In my opinion, not to be selfish, but if you are doing all of the organizing and work, keep the comp. No one is going to miss that small amount.

On the other hand, some travel agents give groups a lot of comps and gifts, depending on the size of the group.

Some travel agents will also help you if you are most of a group, say 6 cabins, with booking the other 2 along with you and holding them until someone books it from them....passing the group reduction on to your group. This is how some travel agents give better rates than others.
