luv2cruise79 Posted September 25, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2006 We will be in San Juan on New Years Day. Does anyone know if El Morro will be open? How about the shops in Old Town? We were planning on going to El Morro and Old Town but if everything's shut down we may take the ship's tour to El Yunque.
Shoequeen Posted October 1, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 1, 2006 We'll be in San Juan on New Year's Day, also. What ship will you be on. We're on the RCCL Navigator of the Sea. Did the same thing last year and we weren't too impressed with old San Juan. I think this time we're going to take a cab over to the big hotel area and the beaches to see what's over there. The one thing nice about Old San Juan was the plaza was still decorated for Christmas, so it was very pretty and festive looking. Hope you have a great time. ajilimojil Posted October 3, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 3, 2006 San Juan will be, like everyone everywhere after a New Yea's party, hung-over! LOL I doubt any stores are open, except the die-hard souvenir shops. Hotels are open for business, as usual, but for the most part, this is a major holiday and people go on vacations or visit relatives, so it should be pretty quiet about town. I think the El Yunque trip is a good idea. Don't forget to be prepared for cool temps up there and the possibility of a downpour.
