Is it worth getting off the ship in Progresso??

:) 1/30/05 sailing. We were thinking of making our own excursion to Meridia, Dzbilchaltun, strolling the beach and some shopping in Progreso. My husband's only concerns are missing the ship, because we can't get back in time. I read that it is possible to take a taxi to the ruins and Meridia but what are the chances of getting a taxi ride back to Progreso when we are ready to return?

ps: I'm already packed! ;)

Dzibilchaltun (pronounced dzeeble-kal-toon) is approximately 10 miles from the port ... the bus ride to/from the ruins is relatively short making for a 4 hour excursion (compared to the 7-8 hour excursions for the other ruin sites). The cenote makes for a great swimmming break, especially if it's a rather hot day. ;)
