kbknepp Posted September 27, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2006 Okay, I know this is probably a really stupid question, but as the daughter of a Coast Guard officer, it has crossed my mind. We are traveling with a 3-year-old next summer. Are the life vests one-size-fits most or will they have a childs size vest in our cabin? Silly to even think about, but you know how paranoid first-time parents can be.
Puffinater Posted September 27, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2006 They provide both adult and child size vests. When you first arrive at your cabin check the vests out. If a child size is not there advise the cabin steward and you will get one.
parrotthead Posted September 27, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 27, 2006 Hi..No there will be a 'baby sized' life vest in your cabin when you get there...if not, just ask you cabin stewerd. They even have teeny-tiny ones for itty-bitty baabies...be sure to take a pic at the MusterDrill...the little ones look so cute in their vests!! (Just remember to let her know what is gonna happen so she is not frightened...on our last cruise there was a little girl freaking out, she thought it was an emergancy I guess she didnt know what was going on when everyone got their lifevests on a assembled) OH, adn tell her dont blow the whistle...;) ...you dont know where its been:p Have fun! loudbmw Posted September 27, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2006 As the cruise line knows the ages of the guests in each cabin, child life vests will be in your cabin upon your arrival. If one isn't, your cabin attendant will be happy to get you one. There are also spare vests (adult & child) by the life boats in case you can't get to your cabin in the event of an emergency. They have this one well covered in my opinion - enjoy your cruise, Lou
kbknepp Posted September 27, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted September 27, 2006 I figured I was being silly as I know that the Coast Guard requires life vests for every person and extras, but I wasn't sure about procuring one for our little guy and whether we'd need to do anything special. Thanks everyone!
Nurse Daybreak Posted September 27, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 27, 2006 Remember keep the whistles out of everyones mouths.:)
TEXASMUNK Posted September 27, 2006 #7 Share Posted September 27, 2006 Your little one will also get a wrist band. It will have his/her lifeboat station on it so in case of an emergency and you get seperated, the crew will know exactly where she belongs!!! Viking Lad Posted September 27, 2006 #8 Share Posted September 27, 2006 Sorry, new guy here again. When is the lifeboat drill normally held? First day out? The next day. First cruise coming up in three weeks!
Nurse Daybreak Posted September 27, 2006 #9 Share Posted September 27, 2006 The life boat muster must be completed before you leave port.
jwlane Posted September 27, 2006 #10 Share Posted September 27, 2006 When is the lifeboat drill normally held? Just before sailing.
Nurse Daybreak Posted September 27, 2006 #11 Share Posted September 27, 2006 They do check names off the list so it's really important to get there. I'm not really sure what they do if you don't show up I just remember last cruise they had two names from 2 adjoining muster stations that were turned in to one of the ships officers right in front of us. I've seen plenty of tipsy cruisers there as well, but these are never a problem.

zuscruiserz Posted September 27, 2006 #13 Share Posted September 27, 2006 Oj vey. Please tell me we can go to our cabin, settle in, and change first... Yes, you can. Muster is usually around 4:30 p.m. if sailing is at 5:00 p.m.
shrimp0 Posted September 27, 2006 #14 Share Posted September 27, 2006 You may not have the correct size for the muster drill for your little one... but your cabin steward will get you the correct one before the cabin is turned down for the evening.
