First time on QM2

This is our first cruise with Cunard. We have sailed with Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Holland America. We are most excited our new adventure! I have so many questions! We have book an A2, so we have a great cabin on deck 11. We are sailing on December 16th, Southern Caribbean. Here are a few questions so far!

1) How many formal nights?

2) Does anyone have copies of the daily acitivities while at sea? We are so curious to see what is offered!

3) Has anyone taken the ballroom dancing classes?

Any and all information is so welcome!

Thanks!

Becky & Jeff,

Congratulations on your step up to Cunard & the QM2. She may be huge; but I think you'll love the ship. There's so much to do that you can't possibly do it all in just 7 days. I did a back-to-back Transatlantic (12 days total) & was barely able to sample everything. Although I've not sailed the QM2 on a 7-day Caribb. itinerary, I'm sure someone else will come along w/ exact info for you. I do however still have the Daily Programmes from my 2 crossings; & can tell you some of the things offered on sea days. In order:

1. I would guess 2 formal nights, which should fall on 12/17 & 12/21 (just like it would on any other cruise line's 7 day.

2. It's more like what isn't offered. They have the Oxford Discovery Programme which features prominent speakers (i.e, college professors, writers, theologians, physicians & the like) who give informative & entertaining talks. They have some fabulous shows in the planetarium. In addition to the usual things you see on other lines, they also have: champagne art auctions, fashion shows, dart tournaments, golf competitions, wine tastings, computer classes & workshops conducted by the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.

3. On our crossings they held different types of dance classes 1-2 times a day. I never participated; but did stick my head in the Queen's Room to watch. Looked like everyone was having fun; & some were actually taking it seriously.

I hope you have a fabulous voyage on the Queen.

Hi Becky,

Welcome onboard the QM2. Ship is huge and a very lovely liner is the proper name to give her. We have been on Cunard ships in the past (Caronia, many many times QE2) and QM2 the first time on this past 4th of July NE/Canada cruise and loved it. We already know that we would like to do her next April 07 8 Day Caribbean and also Jan 08 13 Day Panama Canal also. So we must love her.

We also had a A2 cabin assignment. Cabin 11147 on the Starboard rear. We would in the future ask for this Cabin again or around that area. We really never heard much noise from the open deck above since this Deck 11 has a unusal overhang from the Deck 12 above the protects the balcony from being to sunny or from weather.

Since we were on a party cruise of only five days I can not advise you of the dress code. On other cruises 11 days to the Caribbean we had Formal-2, Informal-3 and Casual-6. If that is of help.

I did not have the opportunity to upload a daily programme. I can tell you that there is alot to do onboard her. Talks, meals at different restaurants other then the Dining Room (ex. Lido, Great Pub Food-Golden Lion etc...), Bingo, Trivia, Movies, Great Evening Shows, Casino, Gym, Library, Shopping, Planetarium Show-A Must and alot, lots more to do. I guess that the programme is about 10 pages large each day.

About dancing lessons. Yes, they are given onboard the ship. Midday and also in the evening at designated times most likely in the Queens Room. Also, you would appreciate this, each Cunard ship has a Dance Couple Champions as part the staff that both work onboard and also give demo's at showtime and also when designated during a Queens Room event. They also do the Dancing Lessons.

If I can be of anymore assistance, I would be glad to assist you.

Regards,

:) ESLO

Like Becky and Jeff, we are booked in A2 cabins on Deck 11, but for the Dec. 30 New Years cruise. Our first cruise on Cunard and the QM2. Most of us (we have 5 cabins) have cruised many times, although we do have one couple who will be on their first cruise (QM2 for your first cruise - what a way to get started!)

Any other information and tips are welcomed!

on any ship but the QM2 is very special. We have sailed on her twice (first time in November 2004 - 10 days to the Carribbean and most recently in September '06 on the Labor Day cruise to Nova Scotia).

During our first voyage, there were 3 formal nights, 2 casual (first and last nights), and 4 semi-formal. In September, even though it was only 4 nights, we had 1 formal, 1 semi-formal, and 2 casual (again, first and last nights). On QM2, formal is very much so...you'll see lots of tuxes evening gowns. I don't remember the Oxford Discovery Program being on either cruise (they may be available only on crossings). But, there were lectures throughout the voyage (including an art lecture and auction).

Canyon Ranch Spa is great...you can buy a pass to use the facilities (steam rooms, sauna, showers, spa pool area) without purchasing any of the treatments. We didn't book any treatments because I felt the prices were just a little too steep for my wallet but, from what I've heard, most people really enjoyed their time in the Spa.

Enjoy your time on on this magnificent vessel. She truly is an engineering marvel and like her sister, QE2, is built to sail in just about anything Mother Nature can dish out and still give her passengers a smooth (and enjoyable) ride. Make sure you spend some time in the Commodore Club - best view there is.

My hubby and I are booked in A2 deck 11 on the Dec. 16th Caribbean cruise. Maybe we are neighbors! We are in 11038. Where are you?

I found a great website that has many links to QM2 pages, including lots of photo albums. Look here and you can find just about any info you'd like concerning our beautiful Queen. One album has pix of the ship decorated for the holidays.... it looks lovely.

I bought a tuxedo package for hubby on ebay for $89 + $12 shipping. The package included jacket, vest, shirt, bow tie, two handkerchiefs, cufflinks, pants and patent leather shoes. I don't think you could rent a tux for that price. It is an Oscar de la Renta and very nice. I've bought two formal gowns from eBay too for very reasonable prices. Not a plug for eBay, just FYI!

Looking forward to meeting you in December!
