How soon to book cruise/park hotel in Galveston?

We are cruising March 25, 2007 on the Rhapsody of the Seas. We will be driving in for at least 1 day in Galveston prior to our cruise (Sunday to Sunday). When sailing out of Galveston in March 04, we booked our room with the Holiday Inn Express in October. Sailing about the same time out of New Orleans pre-Katrina, we would usually book in December. Is there anything going on this week of March 25, how many hotels actually offer one night cruise/park feature (we will NEVER again stay at the Holiday Inn Express even under the new name...way too much mold from Ivan). How fast does the Galvez or other historic hotels book out? Any other recomendations would be great. Would love to stay on the Seawall again but would also consider being closer to the pier (or walking dist?). Thanks!

We've been looking for the March 17th, and they are filling up quick. Harbor house on travelocity was only $132/night and has great reviews. Everything else was either pretty much full, $200+ per night, or had poor reviews. Gaidos still isn't opening up rooms for March until November, but I haven't read any reviews on it.

We are considering staying in Houston, and getting a limo to take us to the port in the morning.

There are also lots of hotel/motel options between Houston and Galveston. Try checking for lodging in the Clear Lake/Bay Area section of Houston (addresses on Bay Area Blvd. and/or NASA Road #1, now changing to NASA Parkway), or in League City, Dickinson and Texas City. One warning, however, none of those would have the "Leave your car free while you cruise" option.

Tremont & Harbor House hotels are located on The Strand. Closest you will get to the cruise terminal.
