Sailing out of Galveston with Dolphins

Something fun we have always noticed when sailing out of Galveston is how all the dolphins swim with the ship.

About 20 minutes after sailaway, we always head to the front of the ship to watch 50 -100 swimming and jumping.

This past September when the Ecstasy was comming back in to port, my 20 year old daughter woke us up at 4am ( yes!, she was still up) to see them. There had to be 100 - 200 of them.

If you get a chance, dont miss it!

It really does seem like they are increasing..Have not seen that many..

But in mid August we were on the Ferry and saw about 5 pods with 5-6 in each pod...I have lived here my whole life, and we have only recently begun to see this many..Growing up,they were a rarity....Sometimes you could see them following the shrimp boats, and occasionally the ferries..

Its really cool. FWIW...The Pelicans have made quite a comeback as well :)

A few months ago myself and some friends went to Galveston to do a ship inspection on Rhapsody, then we had dinner at the resturant right by the terminal, we sat outside, as the ships pulled away from the dock we watched the dolphins swimming with them. They had just pulled out!

So look down as you pull out and you may see some right away!
