Brig273 Posted October 8, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2006 I've been on 2 previous cruises (Princess & RC) with friends. I'm considering going solo on Carnival because of thier reasonable solo fares. I know on RC they have the Meet & Mingle and scheduled get-togethers for singles. How does it work on Carnival? Does the "Roll Call" board make up a time and place to meet? Is there some sort of organized meeting event? Thanks!
kathy32259 Posted October 8, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 8, 2006 Usually the first night of the cruise Carnival has a singles meet and greet. It will be in your "Capers" (daily news) on the day you board the ship. They usually meet around 11 or so pm. I believe the locations to meet are broken down by age group as well. I recommend you also join your roll call. Someone there should suggest a meet and greet for your group as well - or you could suggest it maybe....:) Then again - there are only 2 others from CC who are on my roll call and we leave in two weeks. :p I have been told that the maitre'd will seat you at a table with other solo's as well. This is what I am hoping for. I chose the 8 pm dinner seating thinking more solo travelers would also choose that time. We'll see. I agree - Carnival has the best pricing for solo's that I have found yet. Bon Voyage!
Brig273 Posted October 8, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted October 8, 2006 Thanks so much, Kathy! That is really helpful!!! Have fun on your trip. Let us know how much fun you had when you get back :)
kathy32259 Posted October 8, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 8, 2006 I will be sure and let you know how it goes when I get back. This is my first solo - and I have heard it is easier to meet people on a smaller ship. Mine cruise is on one of the smallest in the Carnival fleet - the Celebration. And the good news is that it sails out of my home port of Jax. At least I know how to find my way to the port!! ;) I'll be in touch!! :D
Island Annie Posted October 10, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 10, 2006 brig273, Every Carnival cruise I've been on (15 I think) has had a "Singles Party" the first night of a 7 day cruise. It's usually held around midnight and is usually held in the discoteque, but you should check your capers (daily newsletter) for the exact time & location for your particular sailing. If it seems a little quiet when you first get there don't get discouraged. Take a couple laps around the promenade and then stop back. You might be surprised. (I've had this happen a couple of times:-) As suggested above, you may also want to get aquainted with the posters on the roll call board for your sailing and make plans to meet some or all of them at some point during the cruise. Please let us know how your cruise was when you get back. Annie
rada628 Posted October 10, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 10, 2006 Brig273, Join a roll call, but be prepared to go it on your own just in case. There were a bunch of people on my roll call, but only four of us showed up at the meet and greet(I was the only solo cruiser). Everyone was basically like, "nice to meet you, see you around the ship." I didn't go to the singles mixer at the disco, so I can't really comment about that. I did meet some nice people on the ship to hang around with. If you go the dining room for breakfast and lunch, that helps you to meet people as well. I'm sure you'll be fine. Everyones so friendly on board that I'm never lonely for long.

kathy32259 Posted October 14, 2006 #14 Share Posted October 14, 2006 Hi All - Barbara - you are right - the Celebration is not the smallest - but second smallest. I understand that the layout is pretty much the same as the Holiday except some of the cabin decks are different. Have you stayed in a 1A porthole cabin on the Celebration? I am in one of those a week from today :D - but I have never been in that type cabin. My btb in December is with friends. I have my own balcony cabin and they are right next door - so we will open the partition and have a large balcony. We did that last year and loved it so much we decided to go for two weeks this year. My first btb. I am so excited! rada - I don't think there is anyone in the world that would want to see me dressed as a towel animal - LOL I may just pass on the dressing up and be an observer. I am going to check out the singles party to see if anything is going on there. If not, I will be off to the piano bar and the casino!

jessemon Posted October 15, 2006 #16 Share Posted October 15, 2006 Maybe you could dress up as a towel animal! :D Sorry rada,Could not resist...maybe you could have fun starting a new thread (if it has already not been done)... If Carnival (or any other cruiseline) had a dress as a towel animal night...what would dress as and why...? If I were to start this off I would first have to remember that this is a "PG" board...:D And I am not going to say anything about elephant and where I wear the towel.... ....now the and why part....wishful thinking?;) SORRY
rada628 Posted October 15, 2006 #17 Share Posted October 15, 2006 That would be interesting indeed! Half the time, I'm unsure what animal it is supposed to be anyway. I'm sure the costumes would be a good guessing game. On my recent cruise, I had one that looked like a walrus to me. When my sister looked at it, she saw something totally different. But as you said, this is a PG board, so I can't really get into that! ;)
