vozzie Posted October 9, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 9, 2006 P&O Cruises Australia has just announced that it will discontinue marketing "Schoolies" cruises. These are cruises targeting end of year high school leavers ... a bit like your Summer Break. The public backlash to the death of a woman on board, alledgedly due to an overdose of the date rape drug, has been the main reason for the change in direction. Everyone's just a bit over kids behaving badly ... and the predators that follow them onto cruise ships. vanillasky Posted October 9, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2006 For those wondering... "Schoolies" is the Australian summer break for kids. Having a "Schoolies" cruise would been the equivalent of having a specific Spring Break cruise in North America. When you offer "Schoolies" cruises on the only 2 Australian home based ships it can get pretty full on! I think this was posted on the wrong board... even though P&O and Princess are under the same umbrella.
Ethel5 Posted October 10, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 10, 2006 Thank you both for the information. Having a boat load of teens is not my idea of a fun vacation!
vozzie Posted October 10, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted October 10, 2006 I think this was posted on the wrong board... even though P&O and Princess are under the same umbrella. Actually, I posted it on the Princess board for a reason. I saw it as general interest, rather than P&O specific ... especially as Princess has been having well documented problems with youth cruises e.g. "The Brownie Riot". Obviously, someone knows better and moved it here.
chaz cruiser Posted October 10, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 10, 2006 Just want to point out that we already have a thread on this on the P&O board. Any chance an administrator could combine the two???? Thanks, Chaz:)
