usha Posted October 15, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 15, 2006 I'm sure there will be more details, but here's the initial report: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15278030/
Druke I Posted October 15, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 15, 2006 Picky-picky perhaps, but the story says Kona, on the Big Island. Not quite Honolulu.
CanuckCruizer Posted October 15, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 15, 2006 Turn on CNN - you might learn something. It has affected both the Big Island, Maui and the whole of Oahu.
islandermg Posted October 15, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 15, 2006 My brother just wrote from the Island of Kauai and said they felt the quake and his cable went out so no footbal. tuff
wrp96 Posted October 15, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 15, 2006 Last report I saw said power is entirely out on Oahu. In addition to problems caused by the earthquake, they are also having flooding rains.
cusyl Posted October 15, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 15, 2006 I have a web cam buddy onboard the Island Princess. The bow cam shows it docked at Hilo. Hopefully will get some reports from him. CNN is saying it hit Hilo.
SheilaNC Posted October 16, 2006 #7 Share Posted October 16, 2006 Nope, main quake near Kona (other side of the island from Hilo). Hilo had slight power outage and they are still talking about transferring patients from hospital in Kona to Hilo due to ceiling damage.
CaribbeanBound Posted October 16, 2006 #8 Share Posted October 16, 2006 As quakes go, this was really no big deal. I wouldn't cancel any plans. Note: I do not wish to trivialize the damage some folks experienced. My point is the damage was not nearly as great as could be effected by a quake of this magnitude, or as big a deal as some media wanted you to believe in hopes of keeping you glued to the station. Karynanne Posted October 16, 2006 #9 Share Posted October 16, 2006 Having experienced the quake in San Francisco in '89, and having lived in the Bay Area all my life....any quake, when you're in it, is nerve jarring. Once you have gone through that situation, it takes awhile to get back to your everyday pace of life. You sleep with one eye open. I hope the residents are coping well. We leave Sunday, on Infinity, and know that the gracious people in the islands, will open their hearts to us. Karyn
