different ship ?'s

C-U-ONBOARD

Recommended Posts

Just got off the Pride last week (had the time of our lives) so now I am looking to booking our next cruise...we are thinking about the Spirit out of San Diego...my question is...how different are the different cruises...meaning obviously the itinerarys are different and so is the decor of the ships...but would I feel like I was on the same cruise as far as when I was on the boat...I looked at some pics and areas such as the pool, dining room aside from different decorations are seemly identical...do they have the same capers? same menu? same activities? same shows?

I remember on the TV they showed other cruise lines and I am guessing they are all owned by the same company...does that mean my past guest discounts will carry over to those others lines or just for Carnival specifically?

Thanks in advance...

...owns Carnival Cruise Lines, Princess, Holland America, Cunard, Costa, Seabourn and Windjammer. I'm probably forgetting one or two. Royal Caribbean owns Celebrity, I believe. Norwegian Cruise Line is owned by a Malasian shipping company, whose name escapes me at the moment.

Your status as a past guest on Carnival will qualify you for limited benefits on the other lines owned by CCL. I say limited, because you may get a discount, if one is available for the cruise you are interested in, but you will not get priority boarding, invitation to the past guest party or other past guest percs. Not all lines offer such discounts on all their cruises. Caribbean cruises, for example are very competitive, so there may be little or no discount available.

You will, however, be put on the mailing lists for all the CCL lines, so expect to begin getting brochures and offers from Princess, HAL and Cunard, as well as Carnival.

thanks for the responce...

how different are the ships...for example on the Pride there was a Jazz bar, a sports bar, piano bar etc...the harry chest contest, ice demonstration etc...would I expect the same activies/bars on another ship or would there be different activities/ types of bars etc....

The Pride and the Spirit are sisterships. They will have different themes in the different public rooms but the layout is identical. The onboard activities are simular across the cruiseline. For instance, all ships sailing a seven day itinerary will serve the same seven day menu in the diningroom. The shows in the main lounge will be different but the number and the night they are performed will be the same etc.

Let me welcome you to the fabulous world of cruising, and forever trying to figure out your next cruise!!

How different are cruises you ask. From our perspective, no two cruises are the same. We sailed the Destiny three years in a row. First time with another couple. Second year with our daughter and cousin (they were both 21). Last year with DB and SIL. All three cruises, same ship, same islands, yet all were entirely different. Capers are different for each cruise, they're all geared toward the population on that particular sailing. Activities pretty much same (at least they were on Destiny, maybe just different days). Menus probably pretty much the same. Don't know about the shows.

Hope this helps somewhat.

The Spirit is a sister ship to the Pride ~ they are both Spirit Class ships. The decor on the Spirit will be different, but the layout of the ship is the same. So, casino, shops, atrium lounge, showroom, dining room, Lido deck, etc. are all layed out the same on both ships.

We sailed the Pride and then the Miracle (another Spirit Class ship). It felt like we were "home" as soon as we got on the Miracle ~ loved it!

The entertainment, shows, etc. will be similar on the Spirit, but not exactly the same. Different comedians, different production shows, etc.

The menu on all Carnival ships are pretty much the same, I believe.

Your past guest discounts only apply to Carnival ships, even though Carnival owns several different lines.

I think if you enjoyed the Pride, you would enjoy the Spirit. Have fun! :)

The Spirit will also have similar bars. It will have a sports bar, piano bar, karaoke, etc. The activities will be similar. Hairy chest contest and all the Lido games are pretty standard on all Carnival ships.

thank you guys so much for your imput...answered my questions perfectly...so have any of you switched lines just to see the difference? And if so, did you always come back? Do you consistantly go between lines or once you try a new line do you come back to Carnival and never leave? Thanks again...

I like to "move around" from one cruise line to another. I like to sail on with different cruise companies and explore different ports. It is natural to compare one cruise line with another. Its interesting to compare value with price. I come back to Carnival when something is new to see. Like they started a new cruise to the Med. or the new ship like Freedom. Sometimes I will cruise on the same ship but in a totaly different area. I did the Pride, both in Cali (mexican riveria) and also out of Florida. Of the cruises I have been on, I truly fell in love with CCL Pride. She just feel's like home! Carnival has a high passenger to crew ratio, but they always have fairly good service.

All lines have their advantages.
