Carriage rides on Grand Turk?

We were on Grand Turk with a Carnival Fantasy cruise on October 2. While there, we visited with a very concerned lady who had lived on the island for many years and was very upset with the way the carriage horses are being handled. Where they had been using four to pull a heavy carriage, they had cut back to just two. The horses come from Amish country in Pennsylvania and are not accustomed to the heat and humidy of the island. As a result, four have died in recent months. They are not in shade during the day and - according to this person - are not in covered areas when not pulling carriages. The day we were there, we saw one horse with obvious sores from the harness. We ask that, if you are considering a carriage ride, look carefully at the care and condition of the horses first. If you are concerned, tell others. There are other activities on that beautiful island without hurting horses.
