Cruising Kilt Posted October 22, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 22, 2006 We are booking a cruise for next year on Millennium. We are coming in a day early into Venice and will stay over a day at the end in Barcelona. Does anyone have good recommendations of hotels for the days.
tak2 Posted October 22, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 22, 2006 Many of our RollCall friends ( and us of course ) who we went with to the above pre and post cruise ports last October stayed at Venice's Locanda Orseolo and Barcelona's Atrium Palace and we heard no complaints. Both are easy walks to main sight seeing areas which are cricial when you are there for only a day. We have booked Atrium Palace again for 2007 , and Locanda Orseolo I will go back to anytime. Just noticed your other post re cost. AP was 130 euros, LO was 240 for deluxe( I think they call it superior ) canal view , with delicious breakfast included. 4 cruisers Posted October 22, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 22, 2006 Locanda Orseolo and Apsis Atrium Palace alumni here too!!!! Loved both places and would go back for sure!!!!!!!! Good restaurant in Venice Enotecca San Marco. I guess it was in Food and Wine Magazine (we met fellow Americans who told us that was why they were there). Locanda Orseolo is like a miniature Danielli but with a better staff!!!!!!! Have a great trip!
Desertbelle Posted October 22, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 22, 2006 I can't say enough about the Locanda Orseolo. Staying there was one of the best memories of European cruise on the Millennium. In Barcelona we stayed at the Hotel Jazz. It was a great hotel...very clean and modern, inexpensive and right in the middle of all the cool stuff to do in Barcelona. SheilaNC Posted October 22, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 22, 2006 Guess it depends on your budget.... we thoroughly enjoyed the Ca del Dose in Venice (a very small - 7 rooms - hotel) near San Marco with lovely staff, minimal breakfast and very convenient. Seven CCers stayed there together and had a blast. We stayed at the Continental Palacete in Barcelona for 2 extra nights and returned on another trip for 3 nights. Inexpensive (for Barcelona) 24 hour buffet - good for breakfast, light lunches and late night snacks and 3 blocks from Las Ramblas. Excellent staff, small, very clean rooms and a lounge for relaxing and visiting with other guests.
bunduo Posted October 22, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 22, 2006 In Barcelona, check out the H10 Universitat. This is a top notch property. Very clean and modern. It's located a block from Las Ramblas and Playa Catalunya. Here is the link: http://www.h10hotels.com/eng/index.php
NANCYR2 Posted October 22, 2006 #7 Share Posted October 22, 2006 We just returned from a 2 nite pre-cruise stay at athe Hotel Continental In Barcelona. It has great balconies overlooking Las Ramblas. You cannot beat the price. The staff goes above and beyond.
amagar Posted October 22, 2006 #8 Share Posted October 22, 2006 Hotel Galleria This, too, is a small hotel. Rooms a little smaller than a modern U.S. hotel. En suite baths and they're small, but adequate, too. There are three things that make this an especially applealing place: Views from your room right on the Grand Canal, price (about $120 US) per night and location, location, location (it's next to a vaporetto stop and at the base of a foot bridge linking St. Mark's and Dorsoduro). Travel guru Rick Steeves describes Hotel Galleria as "velvety" and it is...but not in a stuffy or dusty way. It's very comfortable. Ask for Room 8: The whole end is nothing but windows on the Grand Canal and only on the second floor so you're right there viewing the action. Continental breakfast included in room fee. We've stayed here twice during trips to Italy and will stay here again on our third visit. Have fun...and don't forget to explore beyond St. Mark's. Dorsoduro is a great place to stroll...make sure in the morning to get to Rialto market (you'll see seafood you've never seen in the U.S.) and skip the restaurants. Love, love, love Italy's food, but Venice isn't where you'll find the best. Instead, head to the bars and sample the bar food...each little bar prides itself in a simple specialty...you can graze and explore...graze and explore.
