Dining on Sapphire Princess

We are set for Alaska next summer on the Sapphire. Can someone tell me about the restaurants on the ship? Also about personal choice or traditional dining? We are supposed to decide on traditional or personal choice dining.

Thanks,

Scott

We sailed on the Sapphire this June, and would highly recommend you opt for personal choice dining. Both Juneau and Skagway have late port departures, and you'll either want to take advantage of this with your land excursions or enjoy the departure from the ports without having to rush to dinner. And most important, if you're sailing northbound, the journey through College Fiord is from 5:30-8:30 and is not to be missed by sitting in a dining room because you have to be there for your traditional seating (we sat in the aft hot tub until 9, then dressed and went to dinner.) There are four personal choice dining rooms serving the same menus as the traditional dining rooms, but each has a cuisine appropriate special (i.e fajitas in the Santa Fe dining room) - you can either call to the central reservation desk in the morning and make a reservation for the time you want, or just show up. We had no trouble being seated immediately most nights at a table for 2 between 8:30-9. We tried each one of the personal choice dining rooms (kind of like going to a different restaurant each night) as well as Sabatinis and Sterling's Steakhouse (the two extra fee dining rooms). We liked them all, but returned to the Savoy, just because we liked the decor and the service. Enjoy your trip - it's an amazing journey.... :)
