sunsetme Posted October 26, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 26, 2006 Is there a place in Australia where they let you hold a koala? All I can find is in Brisbane and we are going to Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney. Thanks
Rare boards Posted October 27, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 27, 2006 The Featherdale Wildlife Zoo, I hear you can hold one there. We will be there on Dec. 11 and DW hopes that is true.
mydream Posted October 27, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 27, 2006 If you go to Taronga Zoo in Sydney you can see lots of Australian animals as well as fantastic views of the city and harbour. You can buy a ticket at Circular Quay and go over by ferry. Look on the website for Taronga Zoo Sydney for more information that may be of help to you. Featherdale Wildlife Farm is in the suburbs of Sydney. Enjoy Sydney!:)
Jane110 Posted October 28, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 28, 2006 Last time I was in Toronga and at Featherdale, a few years ago, neither place allowed you to hold a koala. Did they change the rules. The only place I was able to hold a koala was at the zoo in Adelaide.
packed-n-ready Posted October 29, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 29, 2006 I also wanted to hold a Koala. I wrote to the Taronga Zoo and asked them about holding one. Their answer to me was that it is Illegal to hold Koala's in New South Wales, but with the VIP tour, you can get quite close to them and take some great shots. The volunteer guides will do their utmost to help you out. Hope this helps.

2manyplaces Posted November 3, 2006 #7 Share Posted November 3, 2006 Healesville is about an hour outside of Melbourne. I haven't been there in several years but we also got to pet wallabys. Check out their website for current info.
Aussie Gal Posted November 4, 2006 #8 Share Posted November 4, 2006 Healesville Sanctuary is must for seeing our native animals. You could combine a tour of the Yarra Valley (wine) with a trip to the Sanctuary. I am not sure about holding koalas. They can be quite nasty and turn on you. The Sanctuary is an easy hours drive from Melbourne through our suburbs and into the country. Jennie
lolliepollie81 Posted November 7, 2006 #9 Share Posted November 7, 2006 i was at featherdale wildlife park a couple of months ago and as far as I could tell you can hold the koala's- the only catch is you have to have your photo with them and pay up front- I think it was $30.00. beware.... they are a bit smelly, might want to leave it til the end of the day.
