San Pedro Embarkation Question

We will be arriving at LAX tomorrow morning and having my sister-in-law pick us up and take us to the port. Our check-in time begins at 1 pm. Will it be possible to drop off our "checked" baggage at the port before 1 pm so that we may wander around or even take a cab to LGB or do we have to hang on to it till 1? If we can do it earlier, when would that begin?

Even if the ticket says 1pm, often embarkation can start before that. We got to the WCC (World Cruise Center) at 12:15pm for our last cruise and were in our cabin with carryons unpacked by 1:15.
