Starz723 Posted July 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2004 Hi there seasoned cruisers. What do you do if you get alot of rain during your cruise. Help me ease my anxiety here. I am so looking forward to sitting out. I come from NYC and have never had a yard, deck, porch, balcony, etc to sit outside..just the sidewalk, which is really lousy. So Ive booked a balcony cabin which is heaven to me. This is my very first cruise. So Im anxious Im leaving this Sun 7/18 on the Legend. They are forecasting rain for sail away..thats not so bad..but when I read the forecast for the ports, San Jaun, PR, St. Thomas & Tortola..it all says rain!!! Oh My.. Please tell me is this has happened to you and what have you done to make the best of it. Do you really think it will rain all week??? I have a pvt excursion while in St Thomas. If it rains, I dont care..cause Im snorkeling..(it would be nice to have sun though). Help! Let me hear from all you seasoned cruisers Im 48 hours away from my sailing. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee.. florida diver Posted July 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 16, 2004 You will always find and 40/50% rain chance through the islands in the summer months. These are normally brief (30min) t-showers with lots of sun before and after. Go to http://www.goes.noaa.gov and click on tropical Atlantic and check the satellite pix. If no major clouds are heading their way you should be fine!!
serene56 Posted July 16, 2004 #3 Share Posted July 16, 2004 I learned after my second cruise never ever check the weather forecasts. Because each of those cruises I ws supposed to have rain rain and more rain. It was perfectly beautiful. (ok- I had a haze in St Thomas) When people check the weather they then stress on stuff they cant change. On our first cruise it only rained at night a day or so. But by then we were already in bed. floridaboyz Posted July 16, 2004 #4 Share Posted July 16, 2004 Just have a great time. If it's raining, do as we do here in Central Florida - wait five minutes and usually the weather has changed. Besides, there is plenty to do on board - casino, bars, food, shopping, people watching, etc. You will have fun whatever the weather. Hey, a bad day on a cruise is better than a good day at work anytime!
Starz723 Posted July 16, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted July 16, 2004 FloridaBoyz Thank you! That last sentence summed it up: Hey, a bad day on a cruise is better than a good day at work anytime! Ill toast to that!!
mtd716 Posted July 17, 2004 #6 Share Posted July 17, 2004 florida diver is correct. That exactly describes our weather in Florida as well during the summer. 30-50% chance of rain on any given day. The rain is almost always in the late afternoon. Typical pattern here is beautiful weather most of the day, with a 30-50% chance of a storm springing up usually only in the late afternoon. We get storms many afternoons, usually during my commute home from work (grrrr:mad: ), but they never last long and the sun is back in no time. Usually no more than 30 minutes. Really. I would guess this would be typical of many of the islands as well. Keep in mind that rain in tropical regions is VERY different from rain up north. All day gray, rainy days where you don't see the sun are extremely rare. So rare that it's downright weird when it happens. Honest.

Laurab23 Posted July 17, 2004 #8 Share Posted July 17, 2004 When we left NYC May 31,the forecast was for rain every single day in the Caribbean. Well,we had hot sunny perfect weather. St Thomas it rained for maybe 10 minutes,so don't worry. I'm sure you'll have great weather. And when we left NYC it was cold and rainy.Woke up the next day, walked out on our balcony and it was balmy! Have a great cruise. Laura
