Checking Luggage Early

We'll be on the Oosterdam in a couple of weeks and are taking the cruise with family from out of town (we are from San Diego). My son has an obligation until about 2 pm on the day we leave and the rest of the family will be going by private shuttle to the dock long before we do. Is there any reason they can't take the luggage we plan to check with them and check it for us even though they aren't in the same cabin? That way we could just park the car and bring our carry on bags with us. Will this work?

dont see why not -- last time we cruised they just took the bags and loaded them --- they do not match luggage to pax as the airlines do
