ladylawyer Posted November 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2006 I posted this on the main board, but it was suggested that I post over here. I hope someone can help me! :) I could kick myself for not checking this out, when I was on the Radiance last September ... DH and I are on the Brilliance, for a 12-night Med cruise, next year. We have Cabin 9032, which appears to have sort of a triangular-shaped balcony. Has anyone been in this cabin (or it's starboard-side counterpart, 9532), in any of the Radiance-class ships? If so, is the balcony smaller than the other E1s, on that deck? It looks like it would accommodate a lounge chair and a regular chair???? I'm trying to decide if I should keep it or change to a more conventional balcony. Thanks, so much!!! ~ LL
TicTac#2 Posted November 11, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 11, 2006 Sorry but I have not been in that cabin. I see your concern after looking at the deck plan for this cabin. I'm sure you will get the min 41 square feet size as others in the same cat E1, depending on where the door to the balcony is located you may get a chair near the door and a lounge in the larger area. I think I would prefer another balcony same deck a little more toward mid- ships. On our Med cruise we got good use of the balcony on sea days, but due to long shore days, that started early ending late, we didn't get as much use of the balcony compared to the Carib. Enjoy your cruise.
ladylawyer Posted November 12, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted November 12, 2006 Thanks, so much TicTac! Right now, I can only move more Forward. I did put a Courtesy Hold on one of the "conventional" cabins ... so I guess I'm going to have to make a decision in the next 24 hours - unless anyone else can help out! ~ LL
TicTac#2 Posted November 13, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 13, 2006 You are welcome, anytime. I enjoyed our 12 day Med. Cruise on BOTS, she's is a great ship. If we went again, I would pick out a little shorter shore trips. This cruise is very port intensive! Lots of walking. I needed a cruise after my cruise to unwind. I think I took over 600 photos and about 3 hours of video so much to see. We added a few extra days in Barcelona but didn't slow down at all. Enjoy! ladylawyer Posted November 13, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted November 13, 2006 Were there any places that you thought we outstanding, and would recommend as "musts?" I've been to Italy before, when I was a teenager, but this will be DH's first visit to Europe. Originally, we were considering a 7-night, but thought that would be too rushed. Still, 12 nights is such a short time... Thanks!!! ~ LL
TicTac#2 Posted November 14, 2006 #6 Share Posted November 14, 2006 It would appear that you will have the same ports of call as we did, on our 12 day cruise. In Barcelona we stayed post cruise for two days on Las Ramblas which is quite a site, great fun just to walk the wide street and "people watch". The church of the holy family which is still under construction and designed by Gaudi (sp?) is a must see as well. A city tour in Barcelona is a must do. Nice is a great city tour as well, the big Casino in Monico was interesting. Florence and Piza was interesting but not enough time to truly enjoy the wonders. We did the Vatican city tour and city tour in Rome, I guess you could spend a week and not see everything Roma has to offer. I loved the Vatican! Mykonos was so pretty, I would recommend the wine tour, which gives you plenty of time to see see most of the island and shop. You will find yourself taking lots of pictures. A ride down the cliff to the ship on a donkey was so cool! In Kusadasi the "must see" is Ephesus, which I liked better than Pompii, a true wonder of the world! We had a great tour which included a super good Turkish lunch. In Santori we rented two Quad bikes to zip around, and had a geat time. In Athens (so much to see and only 12 hours in port) we did a city tour, I suggest going all out and doing a long city tour. Naples we didn't see but instead went to Florence. ladylawyer Posted November 15, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted November 15, 2006 It sounds like you have some different ports than we have. Ours is fairly Italy-intensive. We have 2 nights in Venice. We go to Dubrovnik, Croatia instead of Turkey, and to Corfu, Greece. We've booked a hotel with a balcony on Las Ramblas, for pre-cruise. Some of our Roll-Call-mates are booking private tours, and we'll join them for Naples and Rome, but I love the museums in Florence. I guess I'll see what the ship offers. FYI, I took your advice and changed cabins. The more I looked at the config of the cabin we had, the more nervous I got. We changed to a cabin that was more forward than I wanted, but will wait and see what comes up, as we get closer to final payment. I ended up with an aft balcony, on a Radiance Repo last Sept, just before final payment. It was a fabulous cabin! There are no aft balconies, in our class, but maybe someone will give up a hump ... Thanks, again, for your advice and info on the ports. It's been nice chatting with you. Do you have a cruise coming up? If you ever end up on the Left Coast, I'll be happy to give you a tour. I'm very close to San Francisco and Napa. My email address is aladylawyer @ hotmail . com (all smushed together). ~ Lorna
TicTac#2 Posted November 15, 2006 #8 Share Posted November 15, 2006 I was not sure if your sailing was the same as ours, it sounds like you will some great ports on your cruise. We also had a balcony (of sorts) on Las Ramblas when we were not out walking we would just watch the parade-of-the-strange from our room, very interesting! I think you made a good decision to switch cabins to get the most out of your balcony. I had a hump cabin once, which was the best balcony ever. Hump cabins are truly "private" no wonder they book early! I do have a cruise coming up mid January, 11 days on the new NCL Pearl. I joined the Latitudes club and need to use up the credits. We have a friend that is an officer aboard NCL who has offered get us a "friends and family" booking aboard another cruise, but I don't know where or when we will go. I would like to sail on the new RCCL Freedom late 2007, but nothing is firm. With two kids in collage, we are limited to about 3 cruises a year. We will be down to one in school soon so more money to cruise...now the problem will be having enough time. Thanks for your kind offer, and yes, we do get to the left coast from time to time (twice in the past 3 years) I love San Fran! Truly one of the world great cities. Nice chatting with you. If you post a cruise review I know I will enjoy the reading. :D Randy
ladylawyer Posted November 16, 2006 Author #9 Share Posted November 16, 2006 DH and I just got off the Freedom a couple of weeks ago. I can recommend it, although I think DH will give you a different answer (he does not care for crowds, although I found the Freedom to be remarkably uncrowded considering how many are on board). I hope you are able to take the cruise. It must be nice to live in FL and have so many choices. We're pretty limited here to the Monarch's Baja itin, Vision's Mexican Riv itin, and Alaska (since we cruise RCI). ~ Lorna
TicTac#2 Posted November 16, 2006 #10 Share Posted November 16, 2006 Lorna, we have lots of cruises out of the Sunshine State. We can get some good short notice deals too. My oldest was able to grab a seven night aboard Costa Magica for 399.00 (seven nights), she's fine with the fact it's inside Gty. She leaves Saturday.. she get to cruise and I get to keep her dogs. Another friend called CCL last month just two hours before the ship was leaving port. CCL connected him directly to the ship, where they offered him $168.00 pp for oceanview Gty. He loved his five day cruise. I have a friend who I have know forever, that has never been out of the area. I told him I wanted to treat him to a good vacation, as he never has the time or money. So I was thinking of RCCL Freedom of the Seas, late next year. My DW & I, on the last cruise, became friends with the Chief, just one of thoses unexpected pleasures. He just Emailed us with a offer I don't think we can refuse. $399 for a week aboard any NCL ship as a friend/ family rate. I'm sure its not a owners suite, but we may be able to pay some additional and get something we like. I have a local friend named Lorna. She's from Jamaica and is such a sweet person. Tyrkitty Posted November 19, 2006 #11 Share Posted November 19, 2006 Here is a picture of 9032.. You probably know the balcony cover is deck 7 so it would ben two up from there.
ladylawyer Posted November 19, 2006 Author #12 Share Posted November 19, 2006 Tyrkitty, Indeed, I had decided to change our cabin. However, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You for confirming the decision! Another thing I'd been wondering about was whether the forward cabins on Deck 7 had larger balconies (as it appears to be that way on the Deck Plans). Again, your picture confirms that, as well. You are my hero! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm giving thanks for your post! ~ Lorna
