Dear littledylansmom,

Yes they can on this current Noordam.

During our 11 day cruise that we returned on 10/25, we did experience the balcony separation walls/doors being opened during their balcony washing days.

During the cruise we were notified by a card placed in our cabin from the Hotel Manager, that our balcony along with all those on our deck were to be cleaned during the period of 8AM to 5PM. These days were selected while we were in port during the middle of the cruise. We were also asked not to use or enter the balcony at that time so they can complete the cleaning. We were invited to continue to use our room without any problem. Once the cleaning was finished you could again enter even though very wet, the balcony to use. They did not use the whole period of 8AM to 5PM to keep all the balconies closed. We were back out there in about 3 hours. They selected different decks each day for the individual deck cleaning.

The cleaning consisted of pressure hose washing of the entire balcony from cabin to cabin. The tables, chairs, lounges, walls and floors. The reason for denied access to the balcony was due to the water, heavy hoses and equipment (brushes). These were being transferred from cabin to cabin.

Unfortuately, due to heavy seas and blowing waves/spray the day before we landed that very close encased our balconies and their furnitures with a heavy layer of sea salt. The morning we arrived and went to breakfast before leaving the ship, on return to the cabin once again they were out there before the next voyage passengers were to embark cleaning once again.

Just wanted to let you know how well they take care of the cabins, balconies and the ship.

As of 4 cruises ago we got hooked on balconies and hope you will enjoy it too!

They don't "come out" ... approximately the outer 1/3 (closest to the rail) can be unlocked by the steward and swung back, so a person can get by from one to the other, but it's not exactly like having one double-size verandah.

wow, looks great to me! Thanks so much for everyones help...It's really nice to know how on top of cleaning them they are. We were on the Legend (Carnival) in Feb and commented on how they could use a cleaning! We will never get just an oceanview again after having a balcony in Feb...Thanks so much! I can't wait for our cruise!
