twobluecats Posted November 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2006 I know, I know, it's Spring Break. Still--over $300 for any old room? I don't mind spending it if I know it's for sure a nice hotel with access to things to do in the area. Advise?
Quilting Queen Posted November 14, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 14, 2006 I had the same problem. We had the FLL Marriott North booked with Princess but there is no shuttle. It is a $45 taxi ride from airport then another $45 to ship. I checked the Fort Lauderdale hotels thread in this group of posting. I don't know when the last posting was made so you might have to scroll down a few days. I used the AAA web site to book Comfort Inn at 1800 Federal Way for $157.95 per night each for 2 rooms. It costs about the same as the hotel Princess booked plus the taxi, but it is closer and has comp. breakfast included with airport and port shuttles. This is near 17th street and hwy 1. The best thing to do is get a travel book that has all the hotels in the area and call or check the interned for the ones that look close to the airport or port. Some of the hotels did not have rooms available for the night we would be there, Friday, March 9. I got a better deal on the AAA web site that calling. The phone rate was $30 more that internet rate. I did not try hotels.com or priceline. It is recommended NOT to get any hotel on Rt 84. Good luck, Norine
Dgonza Posted November 24, 2006 #3 Share Posted November 24, 2006 Twobluecats, I am also going to be in Ft Lauderdale in March 2007 too. I booked a sheraton hotel right on the beach. The going rate is $339 per night. I got if for $140 per night through priceline. If you use priceline, make sure you do your homework first it will save you a bundle and give you lots of advice on free rebids. Here is where to go to do your homework. www.biddingfortravel.com After doing this, I will never stay at a motel 6 again when I can get a marriott, hyatt or westin for a comparable price. I hope this helps you out.
Anatresia Posted November 25, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 25, 2006 I am having the same problem with Easter weekend. I found the Econolodge in Hollywood Florida for $71/night. Not exactly high class, but it received halfway decent reviews on Tripadvisor, and it's a third of the price of most of the area hotels. (Plus it's near the Hard Rock casino.) Rob&Nancy Posted December 7, 2006 #6 Share Posted December 7, 2006 Hi, We're booked at this hotel in January, and I've read positive reviews, but I'm also seeing some comments about "It is recommended NOT to get any hotel on Rt 84." Any thoughts Bequia? Is this a scary neighbourhood? Thanks! Nancy
Bequia Posted December 8, 2006 #7 Share Posted December 8, 2006 Nancy, There's sections of SR84 where the hotels rent by the hour, where drugs are prevelant, where pawn shops and check cashing stores thrive.. It's a heavily traveled truck route servicing the airport freight terminals and the seaport. There is a brand new Holiday Inn Express on SR84 that's fine but you'd have to take a cab at night to go out to eat for the area is not great for walking around at night. On the other hand, the 17th Street hotels cater to cruisers and conventioneers. It contributes a lot of tourist revenue to the local economy so its a high priority when it comes to visitor safety. The area is well lit, and well patroled with many a shop and restaurant to walk to. ;)
jaddld Posted December 8, 2006 #8 Share Posted December 8, 2006 For our 1st cruise we just booked the Sleep Inn in Dania for March '07 for $161.00. We didn't want spend a fortune since we are only going to be there for a less than 24 hour precruise stay. Looks like a nice place. Includes free shuttle service & breakfast too. Apparently there are a few stores & restaurants within walking distance.
