jtaves Posted November 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 19, 2006 I'm looking into a Carribean cruise with my mother-in-law who will be using a wheelchair. I wonder if anyone can tell me if she'll be able to go to Princess Cays? I understand it's a tender port, but I'm not sure if that means she won't be able to disembark. And once on land, is it wheelchair accessible?
cjh Posted November 19, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 19, 2006 If the waters are calm she will be able to roll onto the tender boat. The left side of the island is wheelchair accessible as far as there is a path that a chair can go down. They have beach wheelchairs but they wouldn't let us use one they said they were for emergency use only. DO NOT rent a cabana they are all on the side of the island that you have to climb stairs to go over a bridge.

robseat Posted November 27, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 27, 2006 We just returned from Princess Cays, yesterday. (Caribbean Princess) We had a WONDERFUL time, maybe because we didn't expect to even go ashore at all. DH is a full-time wheelchair user. They did have to do a quick lift onto the tender, but was fairly easy. We had a nice calm day, and I can see how more motion would make this difficult. There is a little pavilion that goes out into the water -- the pavement ends about 25 feet before the boardwalk to the pavilian, but the sand was very firm, and I had not trouble tipping back the wheelchair and getting through the sand. We could see the beautiful fish in the rocks. Lots of places to sit in a wheelchair -- in shade or in sun. We just enjoyed watching the other people enjoying the snorkling, kayaks, etc. and had a really good lunch too, with LOTS of good fruit.
