cruisin from florida Posted November 21, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 21, 2006 We have booked the southern route on the Legend for spring 2008. We'll be leaving out of the Dominican Republic. I'm hoping to find a good deal on airfare from spirit air. Is anyone else planning taking one of these? I know the Legend is an older ship, but the itinerary completely sold me. KillaFee Posted November 21, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 21, 2006 I called Royal Caribbean today for prices on balconies! Very good prices and the itineraries offered (still deciding between the two...) are amazing!! I went to some of those islands when I was younger but RCI ships havent visited many of those islands in quite some time so I'm really really excited about this cruise. I was surprised no one else mentioned this cruise....and I'm actually glad that it's on an older ship because w/such a busy itinerary who needs an ice skating rink, ya know? And I suppose it also keeps prices down by not having one of the newer ones there, which is another selling point for me. :D Laura
cruisin from florida Posted November 21, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted November 21, 2006 Right now we have a balcony booked for the cruise that goes to Guadaloupe and Martinique, etc. I am waiting for my local schoolboard to finalize the schedule for 2007-2008 (I'm a teacher). I'm hoping to keep the itinerary we have, but the other one is very nice, too. I am also surprised there hasn't been more comment about these itineraries, given the discussion some months ago about the need for new ports. I am SO glad to be going somewhere other than Grand Cayman and Cozumel, or St. Thomas and St. Maarten. :-)
Sunny AZ Girl Posted November 21, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 21, 2006 I also saw the itineraries on this cruise & I think they are very exciting. I am actually looking at doing a B2B Southern route at some point, so will be anxious to hear your reviews!;)
Sunny AZ Girl Posted November 21, 2006 #5 Share Posted November 21, 2006 BTW, are the airfares to the DR outrageous? I haven't checked them yet, but DH says that it would probably make up the cost of the cruise with the airfare. That is why I thought a B2B would be a good idea - 2 cruises, one airfare. Works for me!:D
cruisin from florida Posted November 21, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted November 21, 2006 Just checked on spiritair.com for march 2007 - figure the prices might be similar for 2008 - around $350 RT from FLL. We can drive to FLL, so that would work for us. But Spirit has good deals sometimes so we will look closer to the actual date.
KillaFee Posted November 22, 2006 #7 Share Posted November 22, 2006 I don't think airfare is too unreasonable.....I think flying out of the DR is comparable to flying out of Puerto Rico price-wise. Laura
ricko1 Posted November 23, 2006 #8 Share Posted November 23, 2006 We booked 16 & 23 March. We visited some of these islands on another cruise line years ago. I think it was about 2002-3. It seemed the farther south, the friendlier the people were. One of the islands they spoke French only.. We still found someone to speak English:D
cruisin from florida Posted November 24, 2006 Author #9 Share Posted November 24, 2006 The 23rd is the tentative date for our spring break, the itinerary I'm hoping for, and the sailing that we currently have booked. So we may see you then!
