Help me pick out a great block of cabins, we will be booking next week

for 2008 and while maybe the cabins I pick arent available I want

to have a choice and not have the agency pick bad rooms for us.

Here is what Information I gathered , dont pick deck 6 for balcony cabins

due to the steel not the plexiglass I did see the pics for that, dont pick

deck 7 for oceanview rooms but promade rooms are the best on this floor,

what about deck 7 for balcony rooms and how far away are the promade

rooms from the balcony rooms? stupid question I Know but I havent been

on any of these ships and I want all our friends close by us.

I am dizzy reading all about these cabins already and well I would rather

have personal choices from here.

Thank You for any help

On any given deck (6, 7, 8) Promenade staterooms are literally across the hallway from Balcony staterooms. You could safely book a mix of PR and Balcony rooms that are close (check the deckplans that available on the RCCL site).

There is not much difference between decks 7,8,9,10 for balcony rooms as long as you are comparing apples to apples (i.e., E rooms to E rooms, or D rooms to D rooms). You will find no difference between D1 and D2, other than location.

A bargain on Explorer is the "E" category rooms located "on the hump". Another is the balcony cabins on the aft portion of the ship, although they are prone to more movement in choppy seas.

You should be fine on deck 7, 8, or 9 mid ship if nothing else strikes your fancy. Deck 9 will not have PR rooms though.

There are some pictures in my siggy line that include shots from our balcony cabin on deck 9.

  • 5 weeks later...

We had 7294 on Explorer on our Dec '06 cruise. Great spot. Very quiet, very stable (esp. considering the Force 7/8 gale and 20'+ seas on Day 6. Would book it again in a heartbeat.

It was far enough from the elevators to be silent but close enough to have easy access. On Explorer the Pilot boats arrive on the starboard side, often in the wee pre-dawn hours, so if you tend to have your balcony door open you might near the odd baffling sounds wafting in from the darkness.

Eanjoy your cruise. Explorer is a lovely boat, meticulously maintained and fastidiously cleaned.

Cheers,

Alan
