Beach towels: bring from ship?

When you go to the beach on port days, do you bring a beach towel from the ship? Or if the beach is at a hotel, do you use the hotel towels? This is our first cruise and I am trying to figure out the details. thanks!

Generally you get towels from the ship. Depending upon the line you could get towels in your room to use on the beach or you can take them from the pool area and return them later.

As a delayed follow-up to this ......I have also read a suggestion to take cheap towels with you to the beach as there will be a charge from your cruiseline if someone would steal your towel and you don't return it. Boy was that a run-on sentence. :)

We've never had a towel stolen - and I would hate to take up the precious space in my luggage to bring a towel from home -- I would take the risk. How's that for a poorly constructed sentence? Good thing my English teacher isn't reading this! LOL

On HAL Amsterdam in Dec. 2006, there were stacks of baby blue beach towels lined up to grab as you left the ship at port. Not real plush...but very servicable. Upon return, a "laundry" bin to toss them into. No one was taking inventory. We loved the ease of that.
