dearheart Posted December 12, 2006 #1 Share Posted December 12, 2006 My DH and I will be sailing on the Empress of the Seas (December 18) for our honeymoon and had a question regarding Visa vs. cash vs. travellers cheques. Another CC poster made a comment that on Royal Caribbean ships, you could get cash from the casino, have it charged to your seapass, and it would show as a "purchase", rather than a "cash advance" on your Visa account. Can anyone verify this? Is there a limit as to how much cash you can get from the casino? We're trying to avoid spending money on ATM service fees and travellers cheques. Is there a RCI service charge for doing this? Thanks in advance!
Sheffie Posted December 12, 2006 #2 Share Posted December 12, 2006 Yes, this is true. We did this on some of our cruises if we found we were running a little shorter on cash than we liked. You can get up to $2000 per day, and there is no service charge for doing this. Just be aware that the casinos are not open when the ship is in port, so if you need $$ be sure to get it the night before you get to the next island. Have a wonderful honeymoon cruise! isujim Posted December 12, 2006 #3 Share Posted December 12, 2006 Very easy to do............and on the Radiance in october the limit was $2,500 per day.........
FunCruiser56 Posted December 12, 2006 #4 Share Posted December 12, 2006 We do this all the time instead of taking alot of cash with us. You just go to the window ask for $ in the amount you want and sign your receipt. No charge. The ATM's are expensive to use and by the end of the cruise are usually out of cash. EggDropErin Posted December 12, 2006 #5 Share Posted December 12, 2006 Don't forget that if you have a RCI Visa, you will get double points if you do this. :)

Russ_MT Posted December 12, 2006 #7 Share Posted December 12, 2006 We did this. It's easier than carrying a lot of cash with you. Plus, we got miles on our credit card for it. I should have taken out the max each day and earned a free flight. But then again, that would mean carrying around thousands of dollars just to pay it all back when the bill arrives. We did this as well. Much easier than bringing cash with you and we charged it to our RCI visa for the double points that Erin mentioned.
Rare BillOh Posted December 12, 2006 #9 Share Posted December 12, 2006 Don't forget that if you have a RCI Visa, you will get double points if you do this. :) I was going to "ditto" what everyone else said, as I have done it as well, but I'll do it off your helpful hint. I'll do that next time.
