driving from Whittier

I am thinking of renting a car in Whittier and driving to Denali, possibly staying at Denali Bluffs. How long of a drive can I count on?

Whittier - Anch. 1 hour

Anch. - Denali 4-5 hours

Also factor in the tunnel. The tunnel from Whittier towards Anchorage is open on the hour for 15 minutes; e.g. 9 a.m. - 9:15 a.m., 10 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. You need to line up for the tunnel 15 minutes before the hour.

I say allow 6 hours with stops Anchorage/Denali Park. Also be aware- your LAST full service- reasonable priced grocery/department stores is Wassila. It pays to purchase everything here before you stay in the Denali Park area a few days. :)
