Baltimore Hotel & Port Info Needed

How far is the distance from BWI to the Port of Baltimore? Any idea what a cab would cost to get from the airport to the port or should we rent a car? Is there a hotel near the port that anyone would recommend (and do they offer transportation from the hotel to the port)?

Thank you!

I live in Baltimore, but my top 2 choices would be Henderson's Wharf http://www.hendersonswharf.com/inn/

and the Marriott Waterfront

The Intercontinental used to be Harbor Court Hotel and was a 5-star property. It no longer is, imho. Good luck with your decision. ;)

Oh, almost forgot....

Thank you for the information. How many stars to you think the Harbor Hotel rates now? Have you stayed there recently?

Sandy, maybe 3.5 stars. I don't stay in Baltimore hotels because I live in Baltimore. I frequently park at the Intercontinental and visit a lounge for a drink and the ambience isn't the same. The lobby and lounge areas just don't seem as well maintained as before, so I assume that would carry over to the hotel itself. I do know that the Hyatt, which is next to the Intercontinental, has just had some big time renovations. If you're interested in staying in the immediate Harborplace area, that's another option.

I doubt if any of the Inner Harbor area hotels would be atrocious, as it's Baltimore's major revenue source. If places were that bad, the tourist industry would suffer.

Good luck with your decision. TripAdvisor, imho, is a great source of info.

Yes, Hyatt just made a big deal about their completed renovations. Can't add anything to what Madelinerose said. 5 star Harbor Court was rebranded as Intercontinental. I would expect it to be still pretty good, but have no firsthand knowledge.

If I needed a hotel in Baltimore, I would be bidding for a 4 star on Priceline in the Inner Harbor area. Lots of info at http://www.biddingfortravel.com

Sandy, I just did the Grandeur repo. Great ports. I enjoyed it very much.

You both are super!!! I went on Hotwire and was able to book a room at the Harbor Hotel for $86.00 plus tax. Even though it may not be up to its former standards, as long as the room is clean we will be happy.

It's good to know the repo on the Grandeur was wonderful!

I have been to the Baltimore area many times for baseball games. We generally stay at the Marriott, but have also been pleased with the Hyatt and Holiday Inn. There is even (used to be) a Days Inn about two blocks away that didn't look half bad.

You can catch the light rail from the airport to the inner harbor area for a nominal fee. It is a short walk to the Marriott. Taxis were cheap and plentiful and am sure it wouldn't cost much to get you to the port.

While in Baltimore visit the inner harbor area, aquarium, Fells Point, Fort McHenry and Little Italy. All are accessable by foot or Water Taxi.

Sandy, wow, $86?????? I hate to sound cynical, but it almost sounds too good to be true. I did just Google "Harbor Hotel" and got nothing.

This is the hotel Howard and I are referring to....I hope it's the same:

If this is your hotel, congratulations! Great job! ;)

It is the same hotel and I agree it sounds too good to be true. Taxes and fees raise the final price to $103.93. The luck of the Irish must have been with me when I used Hotwire.
