Alaska, 1102 or 9588?

One is midship on the hump and the other aft. There's no question that I would go for the much larger aft balcony. But some would not care for the long walk to get anywhere. 9588 is about as midship as you can be and the hump balconies are a little bigger than standard. There will also be a lot of traffic near the hump cabin and almost none by the aft cabin.

Decisions, decisions.

We were on the Radiance in June and are returning to Alaska in '07 on the Summit. We were in 1604. I wish I could tell you how much time we spent on the balcony in awe. We did a few runs upstairs while sailing Hubbard Glacier but spent the bulk of our time on our balcony as we sailed into and out of the Glacier. We really went up only to check out the folks lined up along the rails. We watched the choppers and planes take off in Skagway and Juneau, and since we sailed so close to land through some of the passages we saw moose, elk, deer and, sheep and a variety of fowl. But the best part was watching the whales.

Our neighbors in 1104,1102 and 1100 were CC members so we did more visiting than normal, but it made the cruise so special.

We did start whale watching in a SS just past the hump one day and after returning to our cabin realized just how much better the aft was for whale watching.

Grab the aft if it is still available, and don't worry about the walk. After all the hot chocolate and ice cream you won't complain at all. And it is very quiet, even with the Windjammer overhead.

Enjoy your cruise.

  • 2 months later...

did the inside passage on the diamond 5/05. & will be returning on the vision 5/07. it can be chilly @ this time of the year. but on our aft balcony there was very little wind! we didn't realize how wonderful it really was till we decided to go to the front of the ship in tracy arms to be able to see the things the natralist was pointing out as he was seeing them. with our parkas, gloves, skicaps & hoods we were freezing because of the wind. we went back to our own balcony took evrything off except our hoody's & were perfectly comfortable!! DEFINATELY the aft cabin.
