We're off for our first Q.M.2 cruise in Sept. 07 and wonder which table is best in Brittania Resturaunt . We love a good view of all thats going on around us as we're great people watchers.Anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks

To be honest (and not meaning to be abrupt), the answer is "Where you are told to sit". You can request tables, but remember the Maitre' D will be sorting out the regulars who have made previous requests first......

Also, the answer would be different if you want a table for two, or a table for six/eight.

We're actually hoping to be seated at a table for 6-8 people.

Someone has recently posted that the "best tables" are supposed to be those near the Captain's table. In the region of 60ish if I correctly recall.

However my understanding was that these were highly sought after. Whether you'd get those on a first trip isn't something that I cannot comment on, but I guess others will be ahead of you in the queue as a result of making arrangements previously with the Maitre' D.

On the other hand, I could well be wrong!

On a practical level, you probably do not want to sit too close to a waiter's station - The clatter of dishes and increased traffic could diminish your mealtime enjoyment considerably. Ditto with proximity to the kitchen door; you could find yourself an island in a high traffic highway. This is what I look for when I get my seat assignment. If I am not satisfied with our assigned seating, I then speak to the Matre D' armed with a floor plan of the resturaunt.

Exactly how would one access a floor plan of Britannia Resturaunt on Q.M.2 , especially so far in advance of cruise ?

Thanks

You really don't need it in advance. When you arrive in your quarters, you will find a card waiting with your table assignment. This card usually has a plan of the Britania resturaunt, presumably to assist you in finding your table for the first time.

True, you do get more noise and general clatter.

Mind you, I was once placed at a table next to a waiter station and overheard loads of priceless gossip!

The reason I asked for a floor plan in advance is I've wasted quite enough precious cruise time on other cruise lines dealing with maitre'd , and their frequently harried staff re-organizing seating assignments. On a most recent cruise on Princess in Sept. 06 ,I lined up 3 times on our first day out , only to be told the maitre'd was unavailable .After several experiences of this nature I prefer to avail myself of any info that may be available prior to sail away. We're going to be onboard for 24 days so I'd like to find a suitable table in advance.

Merry Christmas to all.

I have a floorplan, but I don't have a scanned copy of it. We were at table 94 and were very happy with it. It was a table for 6 and near the starboard entry door of the restaurant. We had a great view of the tapestry and the Christmas tree. It was only 2 tables away from the one we had in 2004. We like the deck 2 restaurant as it has the high ceiling.

You have, presumably, made a request on your booking form for a table of the required number. It may also be possible to specify which level of the restaurant you want to sit on.

But just how you can really imagine that you can request a specific table on a first cruise is beyond me. You'll have your chance with everyone else.

If you are really on for 24 days I would imagine that the time taken for a word with the Maitre'd on the first night would be worth it. I have always found that either the Maitre'd or one of his assistants has been available on the first day. But there is not always a way of making everyone happy.

I see it as quite fair that those who are regulars get first choice, by indicating to the Maitre'd where they'd like to be on which cruise. As yet, that has always succeeded for us.

But there again, dealing with a restaurant with, say, 230 covers is a different order of magnitude to one the size of the Britannia. The very fact that there is a floor plan supplied indicated the size of it - I've always been escorted to my table if necessary......
